Should i be afraid from what i will find when i fly to the edges of the campaign map?

LSThis is funny to see as I tried my 1st Balkans mission yesterday (back to 4.34.4 to avoid the “GNDAIClass” CTD in 4.35). End of mission I fired up TacView and find that I was at the edge of the world! My target was at the very far East of the map and I fired and reversed about 20 Nm out but wondered what would have happened if I kept heading east?

LSHa, I just knew that world is flat on 3 turtles

You can’t get out of the edges.
We live in a theater created by Wanda

Wanda, from sport-Billy?, wheee. Zat waz. My favorite show in the days
-
there be dragons here !!!

No one knows, no one came back from it…
That is why i am afraid to try it myself . . .
Can it be that BMS map edge is the portal to DCS world ? i wonder . . .

I’ve heard horrible things. At some point you’ll find yourself playing an Atari 2600 version of E.T.

“In case I don’t see ya… good afternoon, good evening and good night.”

Worse than all that. You’ll appear again on the other side of the theater.

Y’know, this doesn’t actually sound so bad… I’m always fantasizing and writing posts about the dream of very high-resolution terrain in BMS. In my fantasy, hi-res aerial (or satellite) photographs are draped onto the terrain, creating a realistic-looking landscape to fly through. (“Through” being the operational term )
And, naturally, I often fantasize about flying through a hi-res BMS version of Star Wars Canyon. Most of the aircraft that flew through there, back when that was still happening, flew down the canyon from west to east.
Hmmm… could a BMS theater be made, that just covers a very small area of the Earth’s surface? With the relatively small number of terrain vertices (that BMS theaters have) devoted entirely to that small patch of ground?.. Hmm…
https://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=36.35893,-117.53178&z=14&b=t&o=r&n=0.25
In that case, I could fly down the canyon towards the east, exit the canyon a little ways to the north of Panamint Springs, and suddenly find myself “reset” to the west edge of the map. I’d be back over the Darwin plateau and Hwy 190, heading for the drop-in point into the canyon again! Lather, rinse, repeat!
Oh but wait, I think this wouldn’t work. I’d exit the downstream end of the canyon at a lower elevation than the elevation of the Darwin plateau. Which means I’d re-spawn underground, or else hit the edge of the map like a plane hitting the fantail of a carrier. Ouch. Well, it was a pretty dream while it lasted!

Woe to all who venture yon.
There be KrakenDave

I know I’m going to catch heat with this one from the DCS mainstream….
consider yourself lucky we don’t have small maps that pretty much pigeon hole you into regional/proxy wars vs. NATO big time nation state conflicts…but to each their own.
-
Actually… You fall into fog… Deep fog close to the edges of the map…

Maybe in 3-4 weeks…
And yea star wars canyon is cool to fly through

Thanks, I-Hawk! That gives me some beautiful things to dream about.
I really appreciate your hard work (and that of all the devs), on the terrain, the flight model, the weapons systems, everything.
BMS is simply amazing in the modeling of the aircraft and its systems, and the campaign. Knowing that the world outside the canopy is being worked on too, that’s a very happy thought for a “terrain lover” like me.
