Z axis/lean in to zoom with FaceTrackNoIR 1.7
-
Has anyone else using FTNoIR 1.7 gotten the Z axis working? I’m still using my mousewheel to visually ID AA contacts, but the mousewheel obviously isn’t useful during a dogfight since there’s no time to take my right hand off the stick. If I could lean in to get a closer look with FTNoIR, that’d be a much better solution. I’ve got the Z axis curve set up in FTNoIR and have the “enabled” checkbox ticked for it in the Tracker Source options, and the preview picture and raw input numbers both show that FTNoIR itself is registering the Z axis changes when I lean toward and away from the camera.
The setup I’m using is the following; the following are all, I think, the default settings (the only things I’ve changed are the curves):
Tracker Source (1st): faceAPI V3.2.6, all axes enabled
Tracker Source (2nd): None
Filter: Accela Filter Mk2, with curves for Accela-Scaling unchanged from the default, and reduction factor set to 100
Game protocol: FreeTrack 2.0, with dummy TrackIR.exe enabled, and “Select interface” set to “Enable both”For keyboard and mouse shortcuts, for the Axis Inhibitor setting, I don’t have a keyboard shortcut set, and none of the rotation or translation checkboxes are ticked to be disabled by it anyway. Reverse axis isn’t enabled, but the values for it are:
Yaw angle for reverse axis: 40 degrees
Z position for reverse axis: -20 cm; when reverse 50 cmAre Z axis translations that allow users to zoom in and out by leaning toward and away from the camera just not compatible with BMS? Yawing and pitching work just fine, but that’s it. I don’t need BMS to respond to rolling around the Z axis, and I can live without the X and Y axis translations (leaning left/right and higher/lower), but I’d very much like to get the Z axis translations working if at all possible. Any assistance from others who’ve gotten it working is greatly appreciated!

Solved! In the advanced controller options for view control, I selected “enabled 3D cockpit TrackIR” and “enable TrackIR vector,” and selected FOV control as the TrackIR vector Z axis mode. I had to fiddle around with the curves and the default FOV, but now it’s working great! I immediately noticed that, in addition to the Z axis now working for zooming in, FTNoIR is a lot less jittery with 3D cockpit TrackIR enabled in the BMS settings. Much improved; for anyone else who’s using FTNoIR, you’re only getting a portion of what it’s capable of if you don’t actually have TrackIR enabled in the in-game settings. Only took me, what, almost a year and a half to figure it out; glad I did, though!
