Duplicate ded etc on hud
-
I have seen pictures showing bingo level and ded menus on the f16 hud.
Is this possible in the sim?
Thanks

Switch in the right console, HUD panel, just above interior lights.

Yes very handy when AAR - I have mine mapped to Voice Attack to goggle on/off
-
Hud panel third switch along the top row - ded data all the way forward.
Very handy for target waypoints and the like.;) -
…heh…I once used this BMS experience to inform a RL F-16N driver how to turn it off! And he was very grateful.

Lol

Yeah, it’s annoying more often than not, though AAR is a good use case.

I asked a RL PAF viper driver why he has it on all the time. His answer was cause he’s used to it and it is SOP in their Squadrons due to HUD tape recording

Yeah - I get the impression that pilots that are trained in the Viper as their primary ride are trained to fly with it on, and pilots that move into the Viper from another platform without a DED in the first place hate it and want it off. Most of those other platforms (that I know of) record all that data (and more) for post flight playback without having to have it in the HUD anyway.

The F-16N was retired in 1998. Do you mean the current F-16A that the NAVY use as adversary aircraft? Does the A even have a DED? I didn’t think the old A’s had this.

Dunno…besides, it all depends on the age of the guy I was talking to. I’ve known several Hornet drivers that have flown F-16s as Aggressors - in fact, it was also one of those guys that coached me on how to actually land the thing without busting the gear off it. Last time I was at Fallon (about four years ago) I was standing down the ramp from a Navy Viper, but I couldn’t tell you just what it was designated - I’ve always assumed any Navy Viper has been designated “F-16N” no matter what is actually is - they’re all “borrowed” anyway, from what I understand.

You’re the one who talked to him, so I guess you have a pretty good guess on how old he was.
Your story just seems a bit odd to me. Either he was an old guy that is supposedly very grateful that you told him about a feature on a jet he flew some 20 years ago… or he’s a current guy who flies the F-16A at Topgun that, as far as I know, doesn’t have that feature. The original F-16N was basically a stripped block 30 F-16C. The gun was removed and they used the old F-16A radar, so they were even sportier than the USAF Block 30. They were retired in the 90’s (because of wing cracks) before the original Falcon 4 game was released, let alone BMS. The current NAVY F-16’s are old low hour A models that came out of storage. These Vipers were supposed to go to Pakistan originally, but never made it there. I don’t think the current NAVY Vipers have been MLU’d like the European Vipers. So I don’t think they have a DED. I could be wrong though. It’s not important I guess.

https://www.f-16.net/f-16_versions_article22.html…now you have me even more confused…because now that I think harder he could also have been a guy that graduated USAF Test Pilot School and been flying newer jets out of EAFB. I know a lot of these types - from Lt to CDR - and I meet more of those than I do former Aggressor pilots.
Yeah - I’d heard that the current Navy Vipers are “special”. Been re-engined too. I also heard there was a move once somewhere to get Top Gun to give them up, but possession is 9/10ths.
