Was something done to FLIR-pods in 4.35? I’m always getting masked
-
This horrible bug has been lasting forever.
Are you sure?
I never had this before 4.35, it started with 4.35 and is present on TGP and FLIR views. Not sure at the moment if JanHas models (TGP & NVP pods) have something to do with this, it is an active issue for me under investigation.

It has been the topic of a rather long conversation in the ready room. It’s been lasting at least from 4.33.
EDIT: during that conversation, it appears that this issue has regularly been reported by friends of mine. It never seem to have caught the interest of anyone.
EDIT2: it happens on vanilla KTO.

I want to preface I have no problem guiding LGBs in 4.34, the pod is not masked by any part of the aircraft as long as I keep with in parameters so to speak. But with 4.35 there is always something masking my pod before bombs hit - regardless if I fly straight over the target or turn slightly to the left or tight. I even removed all tanks and other weapons and just had a single LGB and FLIR pod, thinking it was stores masking. I only fly Super Hornet/Hornet and Strike Eagle.
So is it user error?
Nope… something really blocks the view of Tpod on Hornets… Even the pod itself is not in MASK(ed) position/state , you can’t see … It is try and error approach, bank the plane on the different side where pod is/change pitch … and see if you can see then.
But, training the pod is not meant to do with overflying the target (although you can) … it is an U-turn maneuver in front of target … so you always try to keep your “belly” shown in target direction , that is a perfect case, … but not always possible… enemy sam , weather/clouds , etc…

80% of my flight time is night time down low with TFR, FLIR and TGP (Mavericks and GBU), all flights recorded, never had this before 4.35.

To be honest, I recall this leaving a seat in my mind that first appeared after an update, cannot state what/were…

Lucky you.

If you are flying the Hornet and it is well modeled (which I don’t think it is), then yes - it’s pretty easy to mask the ATFLIR LOS depending on 1) what you have on the pylons, and 2) which way you turn. This is simply because of how the ATFLIR is mounted on the aircraft…it’s not as big a problem for the Viper, from what I can see of the geometry. In the RL Hornet there is a cue that helps you avoid masking.
No idea about the Eagle.

Stevie is right. In fact,in RL , with drop tanks, they’ll often put them on Station 5 and 7 but not on 3.BTW, doing that in BMS often leads to an eventual TRP fuel warning
G, one thing you might check is to go into the acdata file for your jet and make sure TGP is set to 2(ie:external). A setting of one (internal) really makes the masking bad in the Hornet
You can help dealing with masking with procedural awareness of your angles to target and/or aircraft bank angle, etc. -
The ATFLIR (and/or AAS-38B) can only be mounted on station 4 on an A-D, and station 5 on a Super (left fuselage - it cannot be mounted on the right side). The old Martin LST/SCAM can be carried on the R/H fuselage station (6) on an A-D, but I don’t think there are even any of those left in inventory. The Martin pod is not and never has been carried by the Super, and you cannot mount an ATFLIR on the R/H side of the jet either.
On an A-D, it’s station 3 that is the worst case masking for an EFT, on a Super it’s station 4.

I guess I’ll have to relearn how to guide bombs then compared to 4.34, cause I’ve changed nothing in how I guide and as I wrote, the camera is never blocked in 4.34, only in 4.35.
Thanks anyway guys.

This issue in my case appeared at 4.35 and happens flying Hornets, never experienced it before
-
I never experienced that issue on a Tornado IDS or GR.4… probably because of the position of its laser pod, located forward on the right fuselage pylon, as we all know.
Just my cent here.
With best regards.

The Tornado geometry sounds very similar to the Viper - plus I doubt you can even get a wing into the FOV on that one…so, yes - I’d expect less of a masking issue.
But it’s sounding like the situation with the Hornet is slouching closer to correct for the Hornet.
…I thought the Gr.4 had an EO system mounted directly under its chin? I used to share a hangar with a developmental Gr.4, but that was a LOOOONG time ago, and I haven’t actually seen one since.

Tornado has a LRMTS (Laser ranger and marked target seeker (i.e LST)) under the nose. Gr.4 additionally has a NAVFLIR in a similar location.
TGPs, either the TIALD pod or latterly Litening III were carried on the weapons pylons under fuselage.

….aaahhhh…now I do recall a “double chin”.
