VIRPIL Throttle CM3 button mapping question.
-
Hello Forum.
I’ve watched various videos but as they are not BMS specific, I still need to ask a question.
In VPC Configuration, Push button B1 is physical button 49 which is logical button 74.
How do I make BMS recognise B1, using VIRPIL software?
Thanks,
Bayonet.

Till April 2020 Virpils software could separate the buttons into virtual devices with 32 buttons each. That is not possible anymore:
I use Joystick Gremmlin and VJoy to map the remaining buttons 33 till 62 to a virtual device. Then it can be bound to any control in Falcon BMS.
I organize them accordingly in DeviceSorting.txt and make that file read only to prevent resorting of the button numbers.
e.g.:
{40CC3344-0000-0000-0000-504944564944} “RIGHT VPC Stick WarBRD”
{81943344-0000-0000-0000-504944564944} “LEFT VPC Throttle MT-50CM3”
{BEAD1234-0000-0000-0000-504944564944} “vJoy Device”
{80362341-0000-0000-0000-504944564944} “EDTracker EDTracker2”Then the button is just a number in the keyfile, like:
ExtinguishMasterCaution 69 -1 -2 0 0X0 0 “EYE: MASTER CAUTION Button - Push”
I like to write the keyfile by myself, I don’t know how to do it with other tools.
The button itself is in mode “Normal” in the Virpil Software.
Hope I could help.

/\ you can still just use the old bios for the virpil software and you can split them, but the methods you suggested also work.

As Kisakuru said, using vJoy and Joystick Gremlin is the easiest way to get beyond the 32-button limit. Here’s a tutorial I used. It worked like a charm:
Good luck!

I do the same here. I use joystick gremlin and the alternate launcher to bind. This allows me to use the flaps lever as a gear handle for example, which I find pretty satisfying to pull into place as I take off.

@kungfoo I am toying with the idea of going to Virpil. Not sure I will actually do it. But my resistance might fail one day.
I have just looked through the BMS Technical manual para 10.8.4 How to setup devices with more than 32 buttons.
In there it shows you how to setup 128. I’d love to know how this improves the DX button issues pretty please : ) -
@jagfour Should make button mapping more straightforward … but it sounds like maybe there’s a separate issue with the throttle-axis being reversed, compared to most.
4.36 has a new checkbox to support that, but at least 2 threads from Virpil owners seem to be having some problem with it.
Just fyi. I think (?) it’s still possible to reverse the axis using Virpil software, just as in 4.35…

@airtex2019 @jagfour one of my axes is still simply reversed (in virpil firmware/software) and works in BMS as before.
As for the 128 buttons limit: it works great, I assigned some more functions via BMS binds directly without going through joystick gremlin. I still need it though, to use the flaps lever as a gear lever (since a flaps lever is pretty useless in an F16).
