Just look at the moon phase. That’s critical for night mission planning. You can switch date to 2021/21/7 for example. Night is gonna be bright without NVG…

yes that really helps :frusty:

Is this the U2 change to set g_fAmbientmin 0.01 ?
Pre-U2, I think it used to be 0.1… I set mine to 0.05 as a compromise. (Open ‘falcon bms.cfg’ in notepad)

Might not be the right thing to do but i find lowering my visor helps somewhat too.
-
Visor is lowered now by default in cfg. I hope we’ll see brightness adjustment for NVG in the future.
-
wrong, it is up, not down by default
-
Yep,my visor is up too by default
-
Whoops, it seems that i forgot that i edited cfg, pardon:D

As said above the moon phase is critical for night mission planing now as per real life. Also NVG will not help if it doesnt have any light input as well as per real life. One thing u can do is memorize the battery switch (on ramp startup) key combination and when in the pit get the Batt switch to on and use the spotlight too look around Shift+S (if i remember correct).

FYSA, my Gen2 NVG has IR Illumination, small button enables/disables mode. Can see in zero light conditions in this way. ofc, I have no idea what is being modeled in this sim or what was available in the era being simulated. Just noting that this exists - not trying to be contradictory.
-
Very true,i have a pair of binoc,s that has a ir attachment
-
not sure this is useful in a cold, dark cockpit, but in 2021 NVGs are basically Halo ODST

I agree NVG capabilities in BMS seem to be lower than in real
For example, the PVS-7 is the standard issue goggle type (3rd gen) supplied to the US Military and its allies. The battle-proven technology includes Automatic Brightness Control (ABC) which automatically adjusts the brightness of the image tube to achieve the highest quality image resolution under varying light conditions as well as a built-in infra-red illuminator which allows the user to operate under zero light conditions. -
@suhkoi69 definitely agree in brightness with some objects like aircraft lights. But on the other hand, being able to use NVGs to see inside the cockpit is unrealistic.
Also, to nerd out about NVGs, while they sound cool, a lot of times IR illuminators aren’t used for aviation goggles like the ground mission PVS-7 has. The ranges that these basically IR flashlights work are not useful for aviation purposes, especially when you can’t use the goggles to see inside the cockpit. Aviation googles are a bit of a different setup, but even the PVS-7s are dated today for ground usage.
