Is there a development schedule for F-18
-
FLCS of the F-18 legacy is quite accurately modeled now (4.35), of course not the Weapon system neither display devices
-
Don’t take this as gospel, but there’s a pretty strict schedule for everything. Word on the street is 3-4 weeks.
-
As far as I know it, no dev in the team was really interested by F-18 for pretty long time.
Cheers,
Radium

Hi, Radium, Compadre, while it’s true that our Dev’s have been focused on other things for awhile, there is definite , and ongoing, development on Hornet/Rhino/Growler/other jets . To quote a recent post" The Mafia’s mission hasn’t changed a bit- Build on the foundation the Dev’s have given us to enhance the “Other Jets” of BMS. We are doing that in 3 areas. Brother TGW is heading up the CFD aspect, and yes, the goal is as you describe. The second aspect is 3D modeling. Brother Kaos, through his Growler Project, is heading that. The third aspect is cockpit modeling. Brother Musurca has provided a very useful tool to work with cockpit hotspots. So, the goal is to see how functional we can make “stock” cockpits, for those who don’t want the Viper or Hornet pit in their jet of choice. And, meanwhile, Brother Eddie is doing the 1001 things that make our stuff work in BMS.I think of our current phase as “building infrastructure”. We’re learning how to do what we want to do, and we are making progress…,"
Asleepwater, you asked if there was a development schedule. I invite you, and All, to check out the Project Bug thread. It is meant to be the “diary” of the BMS Fighters Mafia ( which is explained in the thread’s first post). And Sobo, thanks for the link.
Anyway, I’m happy to answer your question here. The short answer is “3-4 Mafia Weeks” . I’m not saying that to be evasive. It’s just hard to put a hard time frame on it. We are currently working on a specific project for a FOM ( friend of the Mafia) Once that is done, we’ll start developing data to perfect the Hornet flight model. That will then be used on the Rhino/Growler. Then, the knowledge we’ve learned how to do that can be used on other jets.
Meanwhile, there are quite a few things that can be done to the existing Hornet. I invite you to check out the Mafia Files. The link should be in my Signature. You are also welcome to ask us questions either on our Discord(link also in Sig.) or over on the Bug Thread. -

in fact, you didn’t understood what I meant.
I just said that as far as I know, there is no specific work done for now by BMS dev team about F-18.
You are talking about TGW, Kaos, Musurca and Eddie, I may be wrong, but they are third parties, and not in BMS core dev team.
By my side, I feel that F-18 is constantly in dev on several software, and I hear about this aircraft in simulation all the time since early 90s. That’s so boring to me !
I am myself not advocating for another F-18 development, but it’s just my personal feeling, and I consider that any dev is just great because done with people’s passion.
Cheers,
Radium

Model is at a good development state, will continue working on it from now on, had to finish something else first. I am back to work and don’t have much spare time so the going is slow.
-
@radium I think Joe and you are saying the same thing: “while it’s true that our Dev’s have been focused on other things for awhile,”
-
The only guy that was pushing the devs to improve f18 and naval ops left as soon as DCS f18 was released
This unfortunately left a very bad taste
-
Yep quite piss-poor behavior but there’s not much we can do about people.
While Hornet might be present in the fligtsims for over 20 years, still it’s one of those versatile fighters that can be simulated without going too far in the classified/guesswork territory.
Other aircrafts lack available documentation because they are from 2000+ era or their users are quite tight-lipped.
IMHO wide broad capabilities of the fighter is important factor to make it main object of the flightsim. More specialized aircrafts are fun for a moment but constant flow of missions of the same profile might get daunting pretty quick, unless you’ve got plethora of equally well simulated frames of different type.Hopefully past issues with some particular devs won’t prevent others from trying to bring proper F/A-18 into BMS, it would be pity to waste so much great work that went into it already.

@freedomlover Yes, I think hornet can take off and land aircraft carriers, operate more systems, and operate more weapon systems. In addition, its combat radius is longer
-
@drtbkj It’s a pity that there is no F18 development plan. Your reply gives me new hope again. Cheers See you here again >Discord

But it flies a bit less efficiently …

@dee-jay 2 engines == double the odds for something to go horribly wrong

Hi, Radium. I think Lorik is correct that you and I are saying the same things. Yes, our Dev’s have not focused on the Hornet for awhile. Mav alluded to the circumstances of that. And yes, the Mafia is a third party, for now. I say “for now” as, as I have written several times, we would love to work directly with the Dev’s. For now, we have taken steps that our work is available to the Dev’s. The Mafia Files is not just for the membership, and I have personally shared that with the Dev’s. None of this should be taken as a negative attitude. We are big fans of the Dev’s. Let us never forget that they, in this “Viper Sim”, gave us the Hornet and carriers in the first place! They simply do not have the time to “flesh out” the “Other Jets”, though they did a real good job for the Hornet. The Mafia’s “mission statement” remains the same . We are a group who have great passion for BMS and we feel it is NOT “just a Viper Sim”, so we are here to help with that “fleshing out”
I think the best answer to Asleepwater’s original question is, yes, there is a development plan/ schedule. If the Dev’s feel comfortable including our work in upcoming releases, fantastic. If not , we’ll continue to help the membership DIY it. We’ve been doing that ever since the hotspot fixes that started it all.
It really is as simple as that.
