4.35 U3 Rants, feedback, comments

I’m still waiting for the regular download.
I don’t keep a torrent program on my 'puter.
I still have a crap graphics card, always have to fly in clear skies, so I probably won’t ever see the cloud issues.

@Seifer All updates are always a good progress. The communication you did , is new step and I like .
I think as for each intermediary update released, focused mainly on bugs correction, there is surely less wow effect , I guess!
The update announcement was a bit cold, maybe also because of the new forum: I admit to be little lost with the new forum…probably a question of time, It’s just a question of habit as well. However I can say, what I liked with the old forum : it was the possibility to read the topic content open only moving the cursor on the topic… ( see below)
this is a missing point according to me …
otherwise I am always delighted to see the level reached by BMS Falcon It’s true that I haven’t flown enough with the U3 yet; above all not yet in MP. I know it will be promising…I am also one of those people who would like to see big improvements but I have learned to be patient (3 - 4 weeks). in any case, there is always a “big bone to gnaw” regarding Falcon BMS capabilties : we never get tired of it !

There were several issues related to objects burning through fog/clouds:
- clouds were wrongly sorted ;
- fog was being applied wrong to some object types;
- fog is being applied wrong depending on object altitude (and/or viewer altitude)
We have fixed some of those. The third one specifically is still there. ILS training missions shows the worst of this code, and the goal is to have it working flawless one day. For now, I am happy that it already improved. But I know, far from perfect.
Thanks heaps for the update about this, I appreciate it! I am confident that it will get sorted out at some point, and we’ll enjoy some nice pea-soup ILS approaches all the way down through the clouds.

First of, congrats and thank you to the entire BMS team; the work you do is incredible. As a developer by trade (many moons ago) and at heart I understand the satisfaction you get from completing a release and fixing bugs and deploying new features - I just wish there was a way to thank you even more!
Secondly, this thread was an excellent idea and really shows the maturity that the Dev team has and their true desire to continue to improve BMS. I’m equally impressed so far by the constructive feedback - let’s keep it up.
For me, I always treat every release as a gift - it’s like being a kid again on Christmas morning. So far my limited test flights have all been successful and am glad I can take the sticky note off my monitor that says “raise visor before taking pics!”
Regarding your comments / suggestions about people possibly waiting for the weekend to try it, not adapted to the new forum yet and lost interest, I’ve also noticed a just a general loss of activity, enthusiasm and participation in our VFW as well. I’m not sure if it “just a phase” the world is going through or slow attrition of dedicated fans to other things or what. We keep trying to mix things up and try new ways to engage people but it seems like a losing battle…at least at the moment. We have a core groups that is in it for the long haul and we are all very appreciative of the work you do. It allows us to spend countless hours sharing our hobby with friends from all over the globe. So please hang in there - if there is anything we can do to help promote or improve BMS we would be happy to do so!
Thanks again!

@lorikeolmin
Got some time on the sim tonight and can tell a definite visual difference. I love bms! Keep it alive! -
Just a big thank you to you and all the devs.
U3 except for some minor issues already reported above is better than ever.
And props to you my friend, along with few other devs. We are all human, we all tired and make mistakes sometimes.
Never ever for the last 10 years you didn’t respond to my questions and or suggestions. Sometimes with more patience other time with less but again, you are not robots and get tired sometimes.
@Mav-jp - You made me a promise for 4.XX regarding AFM, don´t forget me please
-
@zeus thanks for the honest feedback Zeus! Let’s see if we can bring the enthusiasm back!
-
Thank you to all the dev for keep improving this great sim for so many years. Like one of the members above said, it feels like Christmas every time a new update is released. I don’t have any issues with this release as I haven’t had time to try it out yet. In response to op’s original post, this release does seem to be a little quiet, and it could simply be that not a lot of people know about its existence. I could be wrong but I only saw one post about it in Hoggit in the last 3 days, and there are barely any videos on Youtube about it.

@seifer Soon my daughter shall also be joining!!
-
@buzzkill Check the other thread, I already posted an U3 download link.
Cheers, Uwe
PS: I can recommend “transmission” if you’re looking for a free (both as in libre and in beer), open source bt client that supports all major platforms.

Hi seifer,
Early days for me but I have to say I’m really enjoying 4.35 U3. All downloaded and installed seamlessly with no Config or Campaign issues that I can see so far. The new sky graphics and sunrise/sunset effects are wonderful.
I would like to thank you and the team for an amazing update.Regards

@Seifer I can’t consistenly comment about bugs or CTD not occuring. All I can tell from my first flight is about the colours - daytime sunny. I can’t say I believed it would make a real change, but it actually does, and give more comfort visor down.
Announcement to U3 was cold, what do you mean? Indifference? From my point of view, I was very glad to read there would be corrections and stability improvements to BMS, even though I may not jump around and scream. If you compare with other releases, sometimes major ones, I think they happened at strategic times (right when people had some days off for example), that could make a difference in the reaction. I didn’t get to try U3 before yesterday.

@seifer I gave up updating another popular military flight sim mainly due to tech restraints and although it would be nice to see all those fancy graphics, I prefer the all round package that BMS has got to offer. After two attempts at trying to dive straight into this sim, which ended in miserable failure, I am now wading my way through the tutorials and things are starting to make sense. I am by no means an expert but the sheer level of detail and dynamic campaign more than make up for the lack of lens flares and fluffy clouds. It seems to run butter smooth on my old pc saved by lots of ram and a half decent graphics card. Please keep up the good work and looking forward to future upgrades.

@seifer
Hi, First thank you the dev’s that they are doing good job for make the game better.
I think most of the player who doesn’t fly a lot with in the virtual squadron they can’t report or find some bugs because it is very hard to determine that it is bug or feature or just no prioritise to fix yet. Except when it is obvious like a CTD or repeatable game function which is causing serious malfunction.
But they are very few.The small bugs just those are able to determine, who fly a lot and use the problematic area often. But maybe more people can help to find these if they get more precise guidance.
I mean, the change log just say YX was fixed and sometime we don’t know what was the initiated problem and ,how we can check it that there is no more problem with it or some still occur by some of them. For this would be nice to be a forum topic to discuss or give some comment for the changelog .
That is why there is a good initiative to make this bugtracker site:
third-party-bms-bugtracker
I hope it will be general to use everyone. Or at least in the forum should be divided more subforum within the technical topic to be easier find the type of bug to report like it is graphical, AI, hardver, sound etc…The same to find the bugs for the Dev, we should know that what is the main area what they already know to need fix. We can concentrate there to give to you more detailed information about the problems.
Or some subjective area Like the AI behaviour or tactics we need to know what the devs intention for it to avoid the misunderstandings to report that something wrong with the AI and you say this is not bug because they wanted to do this way.I happy to see some change about the communication, it become more two-way and for you ,seifer to give us some information from behind the scene and we are not blind anymore to say something and sometime don’t get back any reaction about the question or report .
Yes I know , devs doing this in free and their free time, but if they let the users to sacrifice his free time too to give back some useful to the devs and not just enjoying the product. That would be more beneficial for everyone.

Starting third day of a new campaign in update 3. Everything performing well and looking gorgeous.
Just one minor event where a Patriot battery entered my airbase and set up shop across the width of the runway. I don’t believe this was caused by update 3 and was easily corrected through Mission Commander moving the offending unit.
Thank you Devs for your hard work and dedication, enjoying every minute of the new update!

Just curious as I have yet to try it (U3), is it Balkans/Brnik AB? I moved them to defend the Power Plant about 5km away if same issue…

@icer Just standard KTO, Tiger Spirit.
-
@amboe I think the quiet probably also has to do with the switch to the new forum, I’m not sure everyone has made the transition yet.
Personally for me the release announcement post was buried among others on the “unread posts” page, so I missed it completely
All the best,
Uwe

Hi, Seifer,
One week into the new Forum and a few days into U3, and all is well. We were talking in our MP group last night, and have noticed…- +1 to Lorik’s comment-Colors seem “crisper”.
- Bandit’s behavior seem different, in a good way. More “aggressive” and as one MP Bud says “harder to kill”
- My MP Group had been doing a TE series based on U2 files. Last night we started one based on U3. It looks like the issue of AWACS not communicating with wingman if host gets shot down has been solved.
As for the new Forum…I will admit I approached it with some trepidation. It’s a big change. However, I’ve now become very comfortable with it. For example, the way images get attached.
