Search for in the forum

Best way if you search for threats containing all of your search word use the VB Operators
so searching for dog AND fight will show only threats wich both words but searching for “dog fight” only threats with that exact term will be found
Valied operators are AND, OR,NOT -
…to get a phrase instead of words is to use quote marks … “dog fight”.
…searching for “dog fight” only threats with that exact term will be found…
I find that putting a phrase in quotes does not yield just the threads that contain the phrase.
I get all the threads that contain the words in the phrase, but worse, the words are not highlighted like they are when you put the words separated by spaces, without quotes
Does anybody have a method that will yield threads that yield only the complete phrase, dog fight?

Hey oakdesign and Agave_Blue. I tried your responses that said put the phrase in quotes, but it don’t work. What to do?

Do you searches in “Advanced Search”.
Agave_Blue’s " do a difference.

Ok, Got it, the quotes in Advanced Search. I’ll give Agave_Blue 10,000 marbles.
Edit: Now I see the quotes work in the regular search box, advanced search box and thread search box.

the search function is very bad.
it can’t search keyword like “F-14” “U-2”. this is suck for an aircraft forum. -

it can’t search keyword like “F-14” “U-2”. this is suck for an aircraft forum.I wonder if that is due to a character limit in the search function… my group’s website search has a limitation of at least 4 characters iirc. F-16 works, but not BMS, for example.

Seems the 3 characters are a restriction with vbb forum software, but administrators can add a whitelist of short words:

Hi there,
it would be nice if the default search would be the same as the default advanced search.
If I click in the search field at the top and enter someting (e.g. ‘f4radar’) it doesn’t find anything. Reason: It searches for ‘f4radar’ only in the titles.
If I click in the search field and from there go into the advanced search the default setting is title and content. Now a search for ‘f4radar’ finds what is expected. -

just save titles and Post as your preference and it will also be effective for the non-advanced search -
