[BMS Tool] Afterburner Detent Sounds
-
Lets break it down…
ive only used this thing once. it gave me an error and never used again - what error?
but after restarting my pc i found with joy that my antivirus read it as an intrusion on the executable - The executable is “bms-burner.exe” and IF an AV caught it as a false positive, IT would be quarantined (or deleted, depends on the AV)
and decided to delete Launcher.exe - why would “Launcher.exe” be deleted because “bms-burner.exe” was flagged? It wouldn’t be…
with result of not being able to copy\paste in the Falcon bms folder the executable taken from an installation made on another pc - at this point he should have sought help to get the file “un-flagged” by the AV
and than, after a fresh new installation, more than 70gb of backup have been messed up due to the high resolution textures thing of janhas stuff. result: after a whole morning spent for nothing, im forced to uninstall everything and reinstall every single addon all over again. thanks. - blames the whole mess on mrkline, which is total BS. BMS ITSELF throws an AV error for many when you install it….So my point is don’t attack the gift horse… Mkline, THANK YOU for the program, it works perfectly for me and many others. I have modded the sounds to both be the loud click and it works flawlessly.
My point is not to attack gift horse. Problem here is with those AV programs that do they tricks and give some very little info about what they do and those can really mess up installations with older games with .exe files that they don’t recognize.

Internet security programs are, for the most part, an excellent way to damage your computer’s security.
Security in IT comes from secure operating practices, not installing some software then operating insecurely.

I agree with you (and Blu3wolf), but you asked why I said “Great 1st post” and I answered you… the gist is don’t come on here and for your 1st post take a dump on someone that is trying to contribute to our community when the fact is the problem is your own ignorance.

Don’t sweat it! Part of putting your work on the Internet is having a thick skin and trying to help folks diagnose problems you probably didn’t cause.

Hi, guys!! Any good solution for VKB NXT “could not load bms configuration from Bms/user/config” issue???
-
BMS Burner v0.5 is out with support for throttles that enumerate as multiple DirectX devices, grabbing the first device with axes.
Grab it here: https://github.com/mrkline/bms-burner/releases/tag/v0.5

@mrkline
Hi, just installed & tried it out, its pretty great!Im using a TWCS with magnetic detent on the slider, its got a deadband of ‘magnet force’ about 5mm each side of centre of magnet. Used to often pull the throttle back by feel and find 5 minutes later Im still ‘just’ in AB so the sound helps a lot.
If I could make one suggestion for future versions - could the visual overlay be undocked from the corners?
Id probably set it up real small about 1/4 way in, or as a tiny dot kind of in the corner of the HMCS display, if the option was available, to keep it unobtrusive but still visible.My thoughts, the sound and a tiny indicator is OK for immersion, compared with accidentally burning 1/2 my fuel and forcing RTB, so Im pretty happy with it.

I removed the clunky detent from my TM Cougar throttle a long time ago when simming with props. Now back into BMS I missed having some sort of audible feedback for the afterburner. I could reinstall the detent, but the sound always grated on me.
The subtle click in my headphones generated by your application is perfect. Thank you for sharing your file.

@gundam I recently switched to a TM Warthog and had to remove my previously used TM T16k line from “User\Config\DeviceSorting.txt” for BMS-Burner to work, try doing that. You can find the ID list of supported hardware in “User\Config\DeviceDefaults.txt”.

@rusher0600 It works!!
I deleted Cougar and other joystick and works.
really thanks for your help.
Ciao.

Now the sound is missing or better i can’t hear it when go afterburner.
-
Update:
- in 3D i can hear the sound “Click” when from ufterburner going military and below, but not when going from military to afterburner.
-
@gundam the AB>Mil click is much louder than the Mil>AB click by default, are you sure you’re not hearing the latter at all?
As long as you see both “burner-on.ogg” and “burner-off.ogg” files in the BMS-Burner folder, the program should have no issue playing both.
Also check your “bms-burner-log.txt” file, it should have logged both Mil>AB and AB>Mil changes. -
@rusher0600 Hi Rush. Yes i have both file and log say it plays …
Ok i will listen better ! Thanks Rush.
Ciao

I confirm. I can hear both sounds. everythings works.
Thanks a lot for your hints.

BMS 4.36 now has built-in AB detent sounds if you set
g_bAfterburnerDetentClick 1
I don’t plan on supporting this tool any further, though bug fixes are welcome.

@mrkline
I understand your position, but I’m sad to see your utility go to the wayside. I used it for all my flights in 4.35. Thank you for developing it.I loaded 4.36 this past weekend and added set g_bAfterburnerDetentClick 1 in Falcon BMS User.cfg. Admittedly my hearing is not so great across the full spectrum now, but I did not hear any click whatsoever. I tried to revert to your mod, but I see it’s coded for 4.35.
Am I missing something? Does set g_bAfterburnerDetentClick 1 actually work for you?
