Solved Help with 4.35 updates to install
-
Can someone help with my current issue. I was using the base issue 4.35 for about 10 months. I was never able to get the updates to run when U1 or U2 came out. I was also having occasional CTDs, and thought updating is a good idea. I followed the procedure posted, but could never see the U1 listed on the left column when running setup.exe in the setup folder.
I did a complete uninstall of 4.35 yesterday.
Today I found my original Falcon_BMS_4.35_Setup.zip on a backup tape drive. I now have the base 4.35 running with no issues.
Could HOW I did my install be my issue? here are the steps I did:
I made a folder on my C drive C:\BMS_Setup
I copied the Falcon_BMS_4.35_Setup.zip to this folder
I had Windows 10 extract the zip file
Now I have this Path: C:\BMS_Setup\Falcon_BMS_4.35_setup.zip\falcon_4.35_setup .
This is the location of the setup.exe I ran to install Falcon 4.35.Now when I downloaded the U1 update and clicked on it, I could see it wanted to go to my setup location, but it turned up in C:\bms_Setup.
I am thinking how could I have done my initial installation so that the setup folders path is C:\Falcon_4.35Setup which seems to be what the default updates want to install to.
Thank You for anyone who want to spend time with this. If need be, I will just keep using the base 4.35.
Thanks Again

@maxwaldorf
Thank You Sir.
I re-read the tutorial page i referred to in my last post. Would help to read it carefully-DUH!
The updates install is done. the last steps referred to a new install with all the updates at the same time. -
@huffer2 Falcon BMS is a little weird* in that you have to keep around the original installation folder (the big 2Gb file you unzipped – a folder named
Falcon BMS 4.35 Setup
) in order to be able to run the incremental updaters…(*not throwing rocks, I just can’t think of any other software that works this way)
I think most people just move the
Falcon BMS 4.35 Setup
folder to the root of their C drive – from wherever you happened to originally unzip it (typically someplace like C:\Users\yourname\Downloads…)When you run the incremental updaters, I think it looks for the setup folder in the root of your C drive, by default, so that just works.
My system ends up looking like this:

Thanks for the imput. I will try this out.

@airtex2019
HUGE THANK YOU!
Moving the falcon4.35Setup to the C root allowed me to install U1 and U2
Question? On page 7/8 of the installation tutorial, there are steps to do that i am not sure of.
After I did my updates and lauched falcon 4.35 I could see that theVersion and build numbers were changing. Is that all I have to do?
On page 7/8 it mentions download main setup install. Then unzip falcon BMS main setup folder. Next it says to download all updates relative to that major release. Then install all updates to the falcon bms setuo folder.
Am I missing something?
Thanks again for your help.
BTW, the non-torrent U3 download is a .rar file. I never seen this type and I could not install. Did this happen to you? -
@huffer2 a rar file can be opened with winrar or 7z…

No … where are you getting a RAR file? what is its name, exactly?
I sent you the official ZIP and EXE file download links … looks like Seifer shared ZIP file link…

@airtex2019 the DL that is referenced in the Update and release post of U3 is a rar
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/21392/falcon-bms-4-35-u3-incremental-installer
But it seems the OP is solely relying on the Windows integrated Explorer zip function which won’t handle rar packed archives -

Oh thanks – I missed that update.
I would also be left scratching my head, for what to do with a RAR file. lol
Size doesn’t seem to be much/any smaller than the actual self-extracting EXE … maybe it’s more about finding a file format/extension that gets by the overzealous “Defender SmartScreen” and browser-based features that block download of all unsigned EXE files? that, I would understand.
