Helipack Theater

I’m happy to announce the emergence of the Helipack theater. This theater is the result of an attempt at a minimalistic KTO variant that allows us to fly helicopters. As of the original timing of this post, the latest version is pre-release v0.2, and it is still a work-in-progress.
- Why make this? Because human-flyable helicopters would be an asset to Falcon BMS.
- Is the flight model realistic? No, not in the slightest. Due to technical limitations, we can’t get the most accurate of flight models, and right now we’re still exploring what can even be done. Right now we’re tricking Falcon BMS into thinking that these helicopters are airplanes, and we’re abusing the Harrier flight model to make it work.
- What’s the point if it’s not realistic? The goal of this theater is to showcase the what-if of flyable helicopters. We don’t need to be accurate to make this point.
- What’s the end goal? Eventually it is hoped to get this effort supported officially by the Falcon BMS team. This, in turn, we hope, will lead to better flight models and a more realistic experience.

For those well-versed with git, you can download the theater directly from github to your Falcon BMS 4.35\data directory. Git can be used to download updates or switch versions. Use the release tags to get a specific version. All that is needed beyond that is to edit the theater.lst file one time.
For those who have no idea what git is or would prefer a manual download, read the Readme.md file on the Github project page, and check out the Releases section to download the theater.
Please be sure to check out the manual in the /Docs/ directory of this theater for the Theater Manual. The 5 Training missions for SP explain how to fly, and the manual provides a walkthrough for each of them.
Note: There is no campaign support, yet.

@bibleclinger Awesome stuff! Apart from the combat bit, I can imagine that for theater makers it would be useful for exploring the terrain while placing objects and the like

It was time to get something good about this matter, and helos are so useful in a wise modern tactical scenery.So, no campaigns? Time to create some TE(s) instead, then.

This is exactly what makes this community so great. Great work and amazing it was possible to get to work. I’m well aware that it have some limitations, but nevertheless it’s providing a hole new aspect into the sim. Keep walking bibleclinger.

I think I found an interesting tactical situation, worth to be experimented consequently.
Embedded you can find a custom ppt.ini file. I’m giving it to you hoping it’s useful in future, and not to fly this mission only.
I tested it, but please forgive, in case, some unavoidable errors anyway - please let me know further, better.Well… have fun (or so I hope ).

I can say I have been more appreciative of the current terrain as I’ve been testing this theater. BMS seems rather flat from 25,000, but it’s a very different perspective when you’re flying low and slow. I can only imagine how great improved terrain will go with helicopters.

We hope to add campaigns eventually. I would want them to be well-thought out. They should showcase the potential of helicopters. We’ll be updating the Trello to indicate where we’re focused for updates.

Very interesting mod!!!
If you can fly a helicopter in BMS, it will be a unique experience.
All I can think of is that EECH,EECH also has dynamic campaign, and how many years have passed, and I still experience it often. -
