Radar use question(s)

Had a Sweep mission (F16 Blk 30 w/120C/B) online yesterday and two things happened I am not familiar with. First of all a large yellow X appeared and was jumping about on the FCR, then was gone, never saw that before (will check manual, sure its in there). More important is at about 40 miles out I see the two chevron symbol heading my way, but no dot to lock on to, no info when hovered over, and no IFF return. A few seconds later (about 25 mile range) I’m hit and going down, no warning whatsoever. Reviewing the ACMI it was an F16 and a AIM120. Curious why I would not get a missile warning and how his jamming never let me have a chance to lock as it’s something I need to learn how to do…

@icer Theater.

Maybe this is related to the “missing (M)” bug? Have you patched your theater accordingly?
All the best, Uwe

Sorry, Lorik Balkans in FO! Are you familiar with it?
I believe I know why no warning (TWS mode on his part?) but as I (briefly) tried all diff radar modes w/o success, including reducing to bar scan, why was his jamming so productive. Also, keep being told to stay out of Auto ECM and keep jammer off, this guy had it on the whole time he was in the FLOT…

This theater is patched for everyone.
I’m not really familiar with it, or remotely. I created a campaign and gave a start point for the database. I don’t know what happened then.
Your guy is clever, he doesn’t want you to lock. He has no reason to think you Fox3ed him or that a HOJ SAM is directed at him. So, he jams.
TWS doesn’t change anything to having a M.
I’ve had problems lately with M but I think it was my connection rather than my database. However, I’m curious to know if you ever had a M, and if not, if you turned your music on at some point.

Place your cursor on the music and maintain TMS up: “Spotlight”.
Being in the best mode helps. VSR in H2H high speed.

It’s perturbating that you see chevrons in a block 30. Normally they are replaced by a … yellow X…

Hey Icer, hope I can answer your question. Flying a block 30 strobing contacts will appear as X and not chevrons. For the dancing X to disappear a couple of things could have happened… the hostile jet could have turned off his jammer and was beaming you (so no white contact on your FCR) or the hostile jet could have manoeuvred the jet into a position where his jammer was not protecting him… Contrary to belief, the jammer does not give you 360 degree protection. Not getting a missile warning will be more than likely a Handoff issue and is a common thing in the Block 30. Remember in the block 30 the RWR warm up process is a lot longer. Many a pilot forget this and turn their handoff on at the start before the RWR has fully gone through its warmup procedure and the handoff does not enable. Always re-check it at fence in. Loriks Balkans FO is patched for M on RWR. Hope the above information is helpful to you…

At this point i’m not sure if the Yellow X was in a Blk 30 or a Blk 40 from an earlier flight, but thank you, that is good to know!

I think (the yellow X) was a n earlier flight in a Blk 30, this (I think!) was in a Blk 40. It’s obvious I have a LOT more to learn, I find the online TvT fascinating as it forces you to dig in deep to better understand the intricacies of Radar, Evasion, and Weapon control as your (human) enemy sure has… love it! I do have the ACMI, just shows me flying along like I was picking up groceries externally but I was quite busy trying to find a solution in the cockpit! To be honest, I’m sure those last 30 seconds I never even looked at the RWR, my eyes and hands were all over my LMFD though! Oh, and tell Maxeagle congrats, he did an excellent job, took out some AAA with a Maverick, then me!

@icer No worries Icer, takes time, but for sure TvT is a whole other can of worms. Your skills will advance at an accelerated rate and there is a lot to chew on in that environment. Pleased that your online on FO. Human pilots are considerably harder to fly against than AI and flying solo is a risky business in a PvP environment but still a rewarding experience. Flapping around in a cockpit is normal… especially in a heated engagement. The more you fly in these unsafe campaigns the more you will learn. Grab some buddies and take them over to FO and watch as you slowly turn yourselves into a formidable force.
Merry Christmas
