Quick update from the frontlines, 4.36
-

Hello folks,

some time ago I talked that we would try to release 4.36 around February 2022. Well, of course I was wrong. Despite all our efforts, there were several serious issues that we had to take care of, so this delayed us a bit. But we tried, very hard :)

The good news is that we have been doing some regular tests: MP flights with 4 to 10 people. We did find some weirdness, but CTDs are rare. The ones we found, we fixed.

We are now entering freeze mode. Only critical issues will go in. We will enter a phase now where more testing and less coding will be done to get this thing out ASAP.

Regarding some speculation I read here, I will say again: there are no big graphics improvements (nor other aircraft avionics). There are new models, textures, some avionic changes, special effects etc. But the real changes are under the hood: better ATC, smarter AI, new refueling and some tuning here and there. Also 4.36 prepares BMS for what I consider a bigger jump, 4.37. But that is a bit far away yet (at least a year). And I’m not a good person to talk about it since I focused on 4.36 only. Other coders are more familiar than I am with 4.37.

If other team members want to add specific details to what was added in this next version, please be my guest here.

Regarding the deadline, thinking realistically, I think we will release in mid March. We will see how testing goes now. Meanwhile, enjoy 4.35 U3 :)

Damn this is good news. Don’t feel bad about not releasing to soon. I’m sure all of us are just happy to hear things are being worked on. You guys do an absolutely awesome job and I am so happy that my favorite soon is still alive and kicking.

@Seifer I’m so happy to hear the Dev team giving transparent updates. Can’t wait for 4.36. I’m torn between wanting better graphics which my system should run fine, and the possible loss of players who might not be able to upgrade their system. When better graphics do come around I hope the settings will allow the users with older systems to dial back the graphics and stay visually compatible to what they are currently enjoying in 4.35 while keeping playable frame rates.

Will it be a quick and easy task to bring the current theaters up to date with 4.36 after its released? Currently the 87th Stray Dogs are flying Taiwan. I would like to swap over to 4.36 as soon as its released and stable. But I don’t want to loose the ability to complete the campaign we are currently engaged in.

sounds great, I guess March will be a month to look forward to.

@Draft we don’t have war machines here and it runs already very well in 4.37 tests.

The only thing I can’t tell right now is how frames will be in VR.

Thanks for the update Seifer. ‘It’s done when it’s done’ release approach is fine to me. I’d rather wait a bit longer than struggle with buggy release. Mid-late march is not that far away.
I’m more than happy to hear 4.37 development is progressing well too.
