Quick update from the frontlines, 4.36

@Kiwi
+1
OTOH knowing at least estimated hardware specs recommendation for 4.37 and onward would be nice. So one can be prepared in advance. This year finally might be good one to buy new stuff.

If people could stop posting random unrelated stuff on this thread that would be nice. Everytime I see there is something unread here, I get excited. Just to see another completely random post that has NOTHING to do with 4.36. THANKS.

Agreed. Don’t be too exited though, anything from this thread would rather be a delay.

Yeah, this thread won’t be the announcement thread, so following it for the news of the release isn’t good.

I would think for hardware recommendations, if you already have a decent CPU, sometime within the estimated year it will take, buy a current or next generation GPU and you should be fine. Maybe a previous generation might work(i.e. RTX20x0) but it seems like 4.37 is going to be the big graphics update and as GPU prices come back down you can get a lot of value and performance out of the current/next generation.

'Tis the sound of jackboots…!

(Wait…?! Was that random and unrelated…? OMG - the irony-beast cometh…! FLEE FLEE. Or don’t…)

@Kiwi
+1
OTOH knowing at least estimated hardware specs recommendation for 4.37 and onward would be nice. So one can be prepared in advance. This year finally might be good one to buy new stuff.

Well… assuming things will not change drastically performance wise than what currently is the dev version. I can tell you this:
CPU - It’s mostly the same as now, you need a good/decent CPU, but not must have something crazy.
RAM - I suggest aiming for at least 16GB and if you can get 32, better. It’s really cheap these days so shouldn’t be a big deal.

GPU: As HW advances, we become more and more depending on pixels. So while there are other considerations, it’s pixel digesting that will dictate the minimum frame-rate most of time. Hence my recommendations:
FHD res - Something like a GTX-1060, GTX-1660 should be good enough.
2K res - I’m running here 2K res on a GTX-1080 and it’s OK. There could be some bottlenecks at some cases but mostly fine.
4K - I suggest a minimum RTX-2080 for 4K res.
VR (When will come to BMS) - Grab the best you can. I don’t yet have any performance experience with VR but I believe one should aim for the best GPU he can put his hands on.

BTW, regarding mining - If you can, buy an expensive GPU and let it mine when not used. This way you can cover the cost in ~2-3 years. But that also depends on Electricity costs. Here in Israel mining is still profitable (Electricity cost will be ~25% of earnings, so still worth it). Prices suck so maybe this can be a solution. I might soon go for a RTX-3090 because of that.

I don’t care if the PC specs will be higher or high, but it would be nice if the new graphics engine use more GPU and more CPU core in once time. Or if it can handle the newer features like the PBR, ambient occlusion, displace maps, tesselate etc. or would be add to it later on easily.

@repvez More GPU yes… 100% all the time :)

Regarding techniques, yes it’ll be better. DX11 is a reality and so all that’s left is take advantage of its features.

-

@repvez Well, let us first release 4.37, actually let us first release 4.36 ;)

@I-Hawk
¡4.38 o muerte <img src=“/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f918.png?v=1g16vn91q2r” alt=“” class=“not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji–the_horns” />

Hello. Will there be an update to the engine sounds? I would love to have a loud realistic sound and have smoke pods in the show crews… :)

-

Wew seems like my specs are alright for 4.37, I’m not planning to upgrade in at least 3 or so years

-

@Seifer
Thank you for the news. Always much appreciated. Make time for the next release as we already have a very busy winter session with 4.35. As for me, if 4.36 was released only this summer, it would be fully appreciated. Do not rush anything, already you have all my gratitude for this enormous work that you are already doing.

is the paper work done? :)

@vfp
All new ITO airport diagrams have been completed as required with vectorial process (very high quality diagrams).

For IAC, SID diagrams, I currently don’t have enough informations, tools and accurate data to proceed. But I continue to work and get some data. I will soon have more info from ITO theater project manager to obtain some specifics informations and for proposals at some aspects of the charts.

My virtual squadron is currently on a 21st international dogfight championship with BMS 4.35 U3. Lot of work for now. I will be back in 2 weeks on the project…
Have a nice day!

-

@101-Spyder with whom from the ITO team have you coordinated?

I hope there is no double work being done.

@Micro_440th FYI

-

@MaxWaldorf I’m in touch with @101-Spyder since some weeks. All is coordinated with Vaicon :-)

-

Is there any news on 4.36? Did the dev team forget hahaha

-

@asleepwater thanks, now resetting 3-4 weeks… geez

-

@asleepwater no we don’t…
