1 project 3D for a beginner by Repman
-
Hi,
Sorry for not having reported in a while.
Christmas, New Year’s Day is a Covid19, it has shaken up my free time a bit.
For the moment I still have not succeeded in integrating my model in Falcon and I do not know why.
I don’t want to start another model until I have mastered the whole process.
As always in computer science, things that seem simple to some, seem incomprehensible to others. -
@repman
Sorry to read about your healthy issues, get well soon.Have you also placed your texture in \KoreaObj and hires folder?
For replacing an object, maybe try to replace that fueltruck there,
instead of the tower… and see if that works.
Cheers,
LS -
Hi lazystone,
Yes I have put the textures.
I will try with the truck.
For that I have to find it -

Good morning all,

As I can’t put my model in Falcon, I put the files at your disposal.
If anyone has the time and wants to give it a try, here they are:

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/21addb18-3932-4f15-aa57-275d1988aaa3

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/503cad96-5a35-44cc-b5ea-68a466a86e10

@repman

I’ve looked at your .LOD with LODEditor and noticed that your object is just approximately 0.08 feet high.
It’s waaay to tiny and (almost?) invisible insim.

IMHO this indicates that you have a scaling problem in 3dsmax already.

Make sure your “Display Unit Scale” is set to “US Standard”, “Decimal feet” in 3dsmax “Units Setup”.

Then measure your object in 3dsmax and scale it correctly, before you export it again.

;)
Cheers,
LS

Good morning all,

Now that my professional activity is calming down, I can come back to my project.

I didn’t manage to integrate my model in Falcon, no matter why, I didn’t succeed despite more than 10 hours spent trying.
For some it’s simple, not for me.

I understand that the team wants to have 3D modelers who know the whole process.

But I’m not going to keep trying and trying again for weeks to integrate my model without doing anything else.

So I’m left with two options:
-Either I stop my modeling project for Falcon and I continue to model other things because I really like it.
- Either I put my files at the disposal of the community and ifsomeone wants to use them, modify them or ask me to make a correction to integrate them into Falcon and only for that.

Personally I would like my work to serve the community.

So I put my files at your disposal.

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/bec2b523-91e4-4458-b66f-1572cf774d53

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/59375788-c02d-471c-adb4-731583e83e4b

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/8cc07f12-980d-42f1-a4bb-a895d13184f1

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/aaf202ca-57f5-4d09-a4e9-02886d94ed4f

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/5e7c86e4-d024-4a7b-83a6-4ef92a7561c3

https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/40764fb6-cfd6-44b1-9007-fe00373d9675

@repman

To bad you give up now, as I think the solution is in my last post.
Your model is simply way to small in size.

Cheers,
LS

-

@repman
I know how do you feel. I am the same like you. There is no workflow or tutorial to find every details in one place to learn and make own model and change the old one. You can find some, but some are outdated and doesn’t work or missing some important information or step to be a correct and good model to work such in the game as you expected.

-

@repman

the lod looks good. be sure to place the model on Z=0 plain.

-

@repman
IIRC you’ve created your initially 3D model in another software and then imported/loaded
that one into your 3DS MAX.

The units setting in 3DS MAX are important and should be set before you
import a 3D model from another software.
(on open/load a file you can pick “System Units” or “File Units”)

This is the reason why your object get to tiny in size and can’t be seen insim.

There is no tutorial for this, because usally we (most of us) create our 3D models in
3DS MAX AND take care of the correct size of the object.

As said, your .LOD is to tiny, to small in size.
So scale your model to correct RL size in 3DS MAX and export again.

Anyway, you’ve spent 10+ hours and give up now, where I think you’re close.
So I’ve wasted my time as well, while trying to help, … also on PM. :(

Some Falconeers have spent way more hours to get a solution for a problem.
If those gents gave up that fast, then Falcon BMS would be dead since long.

@ccc
measure his LOD in LE, it was just approximately 0.08 feet high,
… way to small to be seen insim.
(but I’ve not looked at his latest files)

Cheers,
LS

Sorry to derail the post but how do you obtain 3DMAX sw license and which version? For me it is waaaay too much money spent on early/monthly Aurtodesk access for my needs. Is it possible to buy some older version for substantionally reduced price? Or some student trial? To pirate is not my way.

-

@Mike_Bravo
Google for student version of 3DS MAX.

Cheers,
LS

Hi, Lazystone,

I misspoke.
I’m not stopping my modeling project for Falcon BMS.
I make my files available in case someone wants to use them or try…
I started another object so as not to lose my level on Blender and SP and especially my motivation.
I will come back to my integration problem after a pose, otherwise I will throw the computer out the window and my wife will not be happy…

Hi all,I’m very happy.
I was finally able to finally see my model in Falcon !!!
Thank you for your support, Lazystone, DeeJay, Radium,…
Here is the result of my first model in Falcon. It flies a little above the ground, but I know how to correct that and besides I don’t care for the moment…

-

@repman congratulations very good job

-

@repman congratulations !!! You can now start a full hi poly Il-76 now !

-

Hi,

Thank you for your support.

Now I would like to ask the team for their opinion on my model:
Are you satisfied with the current result?
If so, I’ll give you the files.
If not, tell me what I need to change, improve,… so that it corresponds to your criteria.

@repman

Nice to see that you’ve solved the issues and your work can be seen insim now! <img src=“/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f44d.png?v=gcfd8gb1ch8” alt=“” class=“not-responsive emoji emoji-android emoji–+1” />

There are still a couple of things to do until your model is fully ready.
- Adjust dimensions in your parent.dat to those fitting your model
see the script video I’ve posted earlier, and/or read about “Radius” and “BoundingBox” here
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?6009-3DS-Max-Exporters-for-BMS

- lower LODs, … maybe just the main box of your model, with everything else removed.

- damaged and destroyed models are needed for “Features”, please read again:
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?7220-Modelling-Organisation
Sadly I’m not into “Features” modelling, so I can’t add much here.
Maybe look at existing 3D models and textures to see how it’s done.

- maybe add another 3D model to your texture, because one model only on a 2048² pixel
texture is a bit of waste.
Your latest WIP would fit nicely, I think.

- Optionally, … and for my personally taste, your model looks to clean (fresh painted)
so some weathering and dirt would be nice.
… maybe some overall weathering, and then additionally some “Bird-Dirt” on the top, and some
gently mud on the “Socket”, … will look like more used, standing there for a while already…

Cheers,
LS
