Alternative Launcher
-
Morning all,
So I am running 2 versions of BMS. 4.34.4 & 4.35
The first copy I installed, was 4.35. I have installed alternative launcher to program axis binding and key mapping.
After installing 4.34.4, I installed a second copy of the BMS 4.34 Bin folder, but everytime I start the AL from the 4.34 folder, it opens 4.35Any idea as to what could cause this? Is alternative launcher only capable of running 1 copy of BMS on a PC?
TIA,
Nick

Nick_85 - If I understand you, your problem is that AL comes in both 4.34 and 4.35 releases. You need to use the appropriate one for each (and of course, configure each correctly).
The 4.35 release (which you seem to have already) is at <https: github.com=“” chihirobelmo=“” falconbms-alternative-launcher=“” releases=“” tag=“” v1.60=“”>. The v1.5 version works well for me with 4.34, but it looks like v.1.53 was the last 4.34 AL version: it’s available via <https: github.com=“” chihirobelmo=“” falconbms-alternative-launcher=“” releases=“” tag=“” v1.53=“”>.
If you want to see all AL releases, go to <https: github.com=“” chihirobelmo=“” falconbms-alternative-launcher=“” releases=“”>.
I’ve got AL running in both 4.34 and 4.35 and it works perfectly. Just remember, if you use the AL’s WDP, MC, WC, and F4WX icons to get to those tools, that you MUST map them to the correct BMS versions (in your 4.34 and 4.35 folders, probably). So much has changed in 4.35 (teams, weathermaps, etc.) that you’ll get bad issues using the wrong tool.
Hope this helps!
Best,

Amazing!
Yes you were correct.
AL v1.60 is for BMS 4.35
I installed AL 1.53 as you suggested, picked up 4.34 right away and I am good to go.Thanks Slothrop!

My pleasure, Nick. Glad to pay back a bit of all the help I’ve received here.

Do we have a nw AL for 4.36?

@Mokong48-0
That would be nice for sure! -
@Mokong48-0 Falcon BMS Alternative V2.0.0 link text

Note though, 2.0 does not support the new 128 DX buttons. 2.1.0 is supposed to but @chihirobelmo needs to squash a couple bugs. I’ve been waiting so I only have to map everything once because I do want to take advantage of that new feature.

I believe AL 2.0 supports all versions of properly installed BMS, you simply select the version you want to run on the Main screen. I still have 4.35.3 installed along with 4.36, you can see what I am referring to in the pic…

Can I have 2 versions of AL installed? I am using 4.35 u3 with AL now. Will I have to uninstall the old before installing the new AL? I no longer have my backed up Hub exe. and I would like to keep 4.35 for awhile longer.

you don’t need two versions of AL2.0 and only AL1.60 had the hud.exe replacement (so if you used AL1.60 with 4.35 and you no longer have the the exe, I think you are stuck).
In an ideal world where you did have the hud.exe (or someone kindly sent you it ;)), then AL2.0 is standalone and the “config” XML files are saved to user config of the BMS version you select to run (above picture)

I may not NEED two versions, but can I run two versions? If I leave AL1.60 as is and install AL2.0, will it bork my BMS? Or would a reinstall of 4.35U3 be a better idea. I still have all the downloads.

@Icer Thanks! I had a hard time programming switches and buttons thru the UI ingame. Whew…

I cannot find a manual for the Alternative launcher?
What I would like to understand, is how the program deals with key files.
Is it importing the “BMS Full.key” and then
creating the “BMS auto.key” ?Thank You in advance!

“AL2.0 is standalone” it knows nothing about BMS until you point it at your specific version. But, it will create its own configs in the version you pick.
I you point 2.0 at 4.35 where you have 1.60 configs, I have no idea of the consequences. But, why would you do that?
-
@CriticalMass That’s what I wanted to know. I can leave my 4.35 as is and install 4.36 with AL2.0 with no bad results.

Hello, I would like to keep a backup copy of the axis configuration and mapping made from AL. Where are the files?
-
@Raiden-0 - I believe in X:\Falcon BMS 4.36\User\Config, save all the Setup.v100xxxxxxxxxx.xml files.
