WIP: BMP1-3

All hail “Hayab the target maker”!

Looking great, but you could try to improve textures a bit. Adding some dirt/camo/battlemarks would be great. Now it looks a bit like a toy.

Just a little mud brown would be nice. Never saw all green vehicle in the field when I served in the army. They were all full of mud or dust every time. It also provided nice camouflage.

Hi Hayab,
again outstanding work!!!
Just one little thing…
With ATM 1600 think will not hurt to give the chain roolers 2 or 4 more segments to make them little bit more round.Cheers

@biker. Cylinders are polygons/triangles intensive. The triangles limit is 4000 for LOD1. Sometimes is better to spare the polys for details as for pretty round wheels.
@PL_Harpoon. I am a terrible texturer. Como can be problematic with 4 models on one 2048 texture, because some parts of the model are mirrored or overlapped by UWV Map.

you’re right, but no need to make them perfect round!
The model ATM has 14 wheel, so if you give each wheel 4 more segments (pies) - 12 instead of 8 - this will result in 4 * 14 + 8 *14 = 168 (if backside of wheels is open) additional polys.But anyway the model is really great, so it’s up to you if you want to adjust or not.
Cheers

One segment of the chainroll has by these model 7 tris, withot backside.
by 8 segments roll 87=56 tris
by 12 segments roll 812=96 tris.
1256=625 tris
1296=1152 tris
This is more as 1/4 of the max. tris count of 4000. only for 12 chainrolls.
4000 triangles is very hard limitation for a 3D model. -
Hayab, your efforts are MUCH appreciated by a LOT of people. Thank you!

4000 triangles is very hard limitation for a 3D model.was a little bit confused from your calculation.
But now it’s clear, the small bumps on the chainrolls do give the additional 4 triangles from your calculation.So as I said above model really does look great, keep on good work!!!
Cheers

If somebody can improve the texture, here is a OBJ, LOD file and multi layer texture with UWV map in gimp and psd format.

Hi Hayab, looks great and thank you for your work on this……however…it’s a bit frustrating to have all these models available that I can’t install into the sim (I don’t have the level of knowledge with LE etc to risk porking my install) . Is there anyone amongst us users who can make some kind of installer for them for the less technically minded of us? That would be great, I can manage substituting some DDS files, but whats involved in getting your work in the sim is beyond me at the moment.
Cheers, Mark

No, these are not available. They will be if they will have animations (wheels, tracks, turrets, etc.), have all lowres LODs with same skin + “destroyed” LOD. What Hayab showed “only” the foundation what is required a new vehicle. But it is VERY STRONG foundtation. The polycount and detail level is EXACTLY what Falcon can handle and what is required in 2012. 200 poly for a vehicle is too few, but 20k maybe a bit high. Falcon is not DCS…
Patience is the key for every 3D work. Just step by step.
