JTAC needs a “say again” option // other problems?

@jayb said in JTAC needs a “say again” option // other problems?:
If one were to make a list of feature improvements for the AI JTAC, a suggestion could be:
-
Getting assigned a holding/orbit position, when given the Echo point
-
Being able to see the laser pointer during daytime on the TGP (unless it is realistic that we need to turn the TGP gain all the way down)
-
“Say again” comms as per @AWmk1’s post
If “say again” can be implemented, it would maybe be useful to have the Echo and 9-Line comms menu items on separate menu items (right now they are both on 2). Such that “say again” would trigger a repeat of either the Echo coordinates or the 9-line
Thx,
jbJayb, 2nd is no. You can’t see a laser pointer. Especially not on TGP. Not even with NVG.

@LorikEolmin Hm, this is at nighttime, you clearly see the pointer (pulsating) :

This is a IR pointer.
IR shouldn’t appear on TGP. If it does in BMS because BMS is not close enough to real.
-
@LorikEolmin It does, there are several examples in videos of that.
But getting back to JTAC, maybe we should just trust that the laser from the JTAC on the ground is pointing/guiding and pickle, even though the laser is invisible. Fine by me, if it works that way

Videos of IR pointer showing in BMS?

@LorikEolmin Yes, here is another one:

@LorikEolmin Yes, here is another one:
Ok let’s go again.
Laser and IR are 2 different things.
IR shows in BMS on TGP. It should not. It’s not realistic.
-
@LorikEolmin I have no idea what is realistic. The new -34 document alludes to visibility of the IR pointer using NVGs. p143 and forward.
The ground JTAC when “lasing” actually fires a laser, like you would with buddy lasing. So a bit interesting that an IR pointer seems to appear on the TGP. I have no idea if that should be visible with or without NVG, that was somewhat my point. That could be cleared up by someone with more information

With NVG, a IR pointer is visible outside the canopy, yes. With NVG on TGP, no. In BMS, yes.
Do recon troops fire both IR and laser IRL? I don’t know. If they’re facing enemy defenses with night vision, I hope not, that would give their position out.

The JTAC in BMS currently seems to fire a laser, with coordinated laser code. But whether there should be a visual cue that it is in fact lasing and what it is pointing at, I don’t know. I have not tried buddy lasing in BMS, but it should work the same way

You can’t see a laser IRL, you can’t see a laser in BMS, even when you buddy lase:
- In TGP without NVG
- Outside without NVG
- In TGP with NVG
- Outside with NVG

@LorikEolmin that was actually the JTACs laser visible on my Tgp- I wasn’t lasing.

Ok, sorry I’m lost though, not sure what you’re replying to.
EDIT: I read the other round that you were lasing, my bad.
Same answers.

In case you’re saying one of the videos up there is yours, which I don’t know, and that you can see pulsing light from the JTAC on TGP, then, to clarify, that would mean JTAC Laser + IR that you can see pulsing but + BMS that allows you to see an IR on TGP, which is to be related with BMS engine not allowing to hide (while it displays through the canopy with NVG).

@LorikEolmin gotcha sorry, thread has become confusing!
Thanks for going again - and I went and observed what you’re talking about in-game.Also I noticed you can see the IR pointer visible thru the canopy with NVGs on - *in peripheral vision, that is, outside of the green FOV of the goggle. Weird.

You’re welcome. Yep that’s how it’s used, IR through canopy with NVG, but through the lenses indeed :P. Probably another engine limitation.

Not sure how it works for the bombs and TGP IRL, but generally speaking physics wise,
“IR” (infra-red) and “Laser” are not mutually exclusive.
So an “IR laser” perfectly makes sense and I always thought that’s what the bombs and designation pointers where using? -
