More complex inputs/macros?
-
I have a TM WH throttle and a VPC WarBRD base with a TM WH stick grip. I’ve somewhat mapped my controls out mixing -Ice’s Helios profile .key file and my own preferences so I have my own .key file. However, I’m hoping to be able to map more complex inputs. For instance, the EAC and RDR ALTM switches in the TM WH throttle only register a DX input when in the UP position, not in the DOWN position. Is there a way to be able to map inputs so that Command A will trigger when the switch is UP and then Command B will trigger when the switch is DOWN?
I’d also like to map a “view reset” macro for aerial refuelling - basically to disable TIR, then make the camera face forward, then go to the default FOV/zoom view. I’d like to be able to switch between having TIR enable and moving my view around then triggering the “view reset” to lock the view.
If memory serves, some of this was possible via Voice Attack, some via TARGET profile. However, I don’t want to be using more programs than I need to for the simple reason of having less programs to start up before being able to fly. A long time ago, I had to use TARGET all the time due to using Morphine’s profile but it seems like there’s no need for that now. I guess there’s no avoiding Voice Attack for voice commands so maybe there is a way to do this via VA and not need TARGET at all?
Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Switch up/down positions: Check Technical Manual, chapter 10.8.2
View: TrackIR Pause is what you need. Unfortunately you have to map it via the Target software as we don’t have a callback for that atm.

@Kolbe-49th Thank you for that!
Can I not just map the F-key for TIR pause to a joystick button? But I just don’t want to pause TIR, but rather pause - face forward - default zoom so I’m guessing this needs some sort of macro?

Joy2key is your friend here. It allows you to transparently map any joystick input to keypresses (and more).

@hoover Does that have to be turned on every time I fly BMS?

@Atlas Personally biased towards voice commands, I would definitely recommend using VoiceAttack to issue ‘Reset’ and ‘Pause TrackIR’ voice commands - on top of that, iirc, pausing TrackIR doesn’t freeze the current viewpoint, but does make the camera face forward. You could absolutely add a ‘reset FOV’ action (if this is a simple keypress or keypress combo) inside your ‘Pause TrackIR’ voice command, just below the keypress action which pauses TrackIR - but again, the 6-DoF moved by your head in TrackIR is all reset to forward/default when paused even if you were nose up to the MFD when you paused, it will snap back to default.
Another interesting thing you could do with VoiceAttack is create a command to startup Falcon BMS. In this, you could add actions to startup whatever auxiliary programs you need to run when flying, and then the BMS program itself. If BMS was the only thing you used VoiceAttack for, this set of startup actions could itself be a startup action for whenever you launch VoiceAttack program. Obviously, this is a little advanced, but even for some actions which require the mouse to move to a specific location and click a thing can be automated fairly easily with VoiceAttack given some patience and time to learn (it’s not rocket science, but when new to any software, there can be nuances to look up in manual or ask folks, etc.).
Whatever you decide in the end, best wishes and good luck! Remember, another alternative is AutoHotKey (AHK), but this also may tread into a bit of advanced territory where patience and passion to see it through are equally important.
Cheers!

@SemlerPDX Brilliant suggestion there! I’ll be using Voice Attack anyway for voice comms so that’s great! Do you have a guide or something you can link to get me started??
-
@Atlas Just press F1 when VoiceAttack window has focus. It will bring up the guide - if you get stuck on anything, open this guide, press CTRL+F to use the ‘find’ function in your PDF reader and paste in the keyword for the action/item/concept you are looking up.
Most everything in the GUI has mouse-hover descriptions, including text entry fields, buttons, etc. Explore the various actions when you create a New Command on the left of the panel, from Keypress through Pause and especially Other. Here are some more advanced command actions such as Other > Windows > Run an application
If you get stuck, and can’t find what you’re looking for in the Manual, head over to the VoiceAttack forums or Discord - plenty of folks happy to point you in the right direction, though don’t expect folks to merely hand out solutions but rather info on how to make things work and where to learn how to use them.

@SemlerPDX Thanks! I don’t mind being told where to look for more info as sometimes I skim past that info without realising that’s what I’m looking for.
