Solved Throttle-reverse checkbox not working as expected
-
I’m setting up a throttle-extension to my VKB Gladiator NXT stick.
The throttle axis is reversed … so I’m testing out the new “reverse” axis checkbox in 4.36 for the first time. It appears ok in the 2D setup / preview screen, but in flight, the throttle axis ranges from 100% MIL to Max-AB.
I tried setting an explicit AB detent in the 2D setup screen … and I tried deleting axismapping.dat and reassigning all axes, keeping the default AB detent. Same behavior, in flight, both cases.
Is there a trick to making this work?
(I know I can probably reverse the physical axis in VKB firmware settings… but trying to test out new BMS functionality.)

@airtex2019 don’t remember the details by heart (can be caused by the Knob Creek 9 during coding) but when flipping the reverse box, the detents also flips.
And red for idle seems perfectly logical for me. Just try to go below it mid air

Strange , I have both of my braking pedals “reversed” - checkbox in BMS, working fine. as expected.
(I can reverse them in “gaming controllers” - one for all - as not programable stuff, like sticks , no firmware, but … whatever, can do it in any config screen)Can’t see why reversing throttle axis in BMS would be a problem…
Must be something on your end., but what???..As an addon, there are some config entries for controlling axis, check that if config screen is not enough.

@airtex2019 Sounds like Virpil CM3 throttle users are having similar experience…

It sounds as if your throttle is only seen as moving in the “past-AB detent” range (mil to full AB). You could check how it behaves in-game if you explicitly do not have any AB detent set.
Of course, you need a detent eventually, so wonder what would happen it you set it at 20% of range motion in the Setup screen (as opposed to the usual 80-90%). There could be a bug/feature on how the axis is read if inversed. And just to check the obvious, make sure that the detent you have set is the green one (not the red).

Ugh ok that helped shine a light onto what’s going on.
When you select the ‘reverse’ checkbox and go back to Setup page … the red and green detent markers are reversed!
That was enough to throw me off, and I guess last night I was setting the red mark at ~80% and green mark at 0%. (Which seems ok to me just based on color association … lol)
Ok, so if I explicitly set the green-mark AB detent at ~80% and the red-mark idle-detent at 0%, it does work as expected. Just super confusing UX
Thanks mate

Awesome, that is my setting as well (green at 80, red at zero) and I invert my axis in Virpils firmware since before this new feature. If it ain’t broke…

@Tumbler31 At 20kft , wouldn’t be even worried … well, if not in “wonder-land” (fence-in)

@airtex2019 Thanks for this reply, had me infuriated after reading that 4.36 now supported throttle axis inversion.
First world problems and all, but it was enough to stop me firing up BMS because I’d often leave my CM2 throttle with the inverted Falcon 4 axis profile loaded, it being the only sim I needed to reverse my throttle axis for… caused so many ‘accidents’ I quit playing it.
So, Virpil users need to invert the left throttle axis, then explicitly set the IDLE at ‘0%’ then the AB where required. Happy Days
