A HARM question.

@Bayonet said in A HARM question.:
Also, why are the tables / targets called Tertiary?
Think its the 3rd tier, so primary, secondary, tertiary. PGM could stand for Program if that makes sense in that context
-
Thank you both.
The new 4.36 manuals are generally excellent but yes, some sections need to be revised.
The questions in my original post still stand.

Bayonet.

@Bayonet PGM could be Precision Guided Munitions
-
PGM: any acronym should have its full form explained, which is not the case in the current manuals (-34 and Training). Could be a report if anyone fancy.
-
@Bayonet PGM is just quality index. 5 - worst , 1 - best,… abbrev is probably something more spicy/ complex.
…hence it has something with “position” in mind - but no, its not precision guided munition, lol -
It does mean “precision guided munition” even in the HAD context. It’s “PGM-quality.” It’s possible for position quality to be inferior to PGM5 in which case no label is shown.

@Frederf @jayb @LorikEolmin @mj3437 @white_fang
Okay, so are we happy with “Precision Guided Munition” as @Frederf affirms?
Does anybody feel like answering why the tables and targets are called Tertiary? I know there are three tables…but
Regards,
Bayonet.

@Frederf Is correct, it does mean “Precision Guided Munition”
-
@Frederf Rly?? … Thanks.
Btw… I was searching for term , even in dcs … no luck.Then ti really is. … Probably because of SOI transfer for ins/gps. (jsow/jdam)

@Bayonet I think the answer is in Dash-34 section 4.4.4.3 where it is described how HARM will look for targets in Target Isolate Glide mode:
• The Primary target is the handed off threat, in case of system it is the most dangerous threat (usually the FCR)
• The Secondary targets are the remaining threat on the active threat table or the Priority targets for the HAD mode.
• The Tertiary targets are the threats loaded on the TER selected table. Which table will be loaded as the TER table is defined on the SMS page. If TBL0 is selected as TER table, not tertiary targets are loaded If a SAM system defined as a threat on the threat table both FCR and EWR are loaded as secondary targets. -
Very good.
It surprises me, that as an avid reader of the manuals, I seem to have passed by that section.
Not seeing the wood for the trees etc.
Thanks,
Bayonet.
