Question about terrain graphics.

Yea
Do you know when?
I want to change DCS to Falcon (I’m tired of waiting for a dynamic campaign, smarter AI, bugfixes, release of modules, etc), but this checkerboard effect stops me. -
@IOne Asking when isn’t the right question here…
I would say, if your only wish is graphics then you’ll always find something about BMS you won’t like because DCS will always be superior!
Now try Baltics or Middle East and you might find stuff that will be more enjoyable to the eyes…
You want to try dynamic campaign? smarter AI? …
Guess what, everything is here already!
You just need to fly… You’re not in a chopper or A-10 so you’ll have your eyes in the skies and instruments, in this case, terrain doesn’t matter… -
@IOne If you want that hot young blonde that laughs at all your jokes and is easy on the eyes, then BMS isn’t for you. However, you seem to have realised that the older lady, the one with a few wrinkles and looks rather plain, that lady can make YOU laugh and makes you learn new skills and test your character each time you go out…
When I first came to BMS after years in Lock On/Flaming Cliffs/A-10C, I miss the detail and beauty of the airfields, the grass growing between the pavement slabs, the town, the trees, flying under bridges… As soon as I had more skill in the jet though, eye candy mattered less and less. Start ups were busy affairs getting the jet set up for the mission. En route, I was busy checking to see if I can make the next waypoint in time or if I was behind. Do I have enough gas if I engage the burner for a bit to catch up? New pop up target, are they a threat? Where did they come from? Are they heading my way? Air cover just flew overhead, I need to fence in soon… then everything is a blur as I get tunnel vision completing my mission. One pass, haul ass. I hope I remembered to record this flight, that run would be awesome to watch in TacView! Did my wingie make it out or do I have to babysit his son for the next 30 years? Talk to me Goose! Am I far enough from the target area to climb to a safe altitude?
Maybe on egress, there’s some time to admire the scenery? No. At least not for very long. Watch the fuel state. Do I need to hit the tanker? Where is the tanker? checks kneepad for info Dial in the tanker TACAN and see how far away I am. If I fly for best endurance, how much gas do I have at homeplate? Has my wingie joined up yet? What’s his fuel state? Awww… fuckitsonsabitches, new popup from that airbase to the west… seems like they’re heading for me. Yeah, they’re hot. Angry too! I should’ve stayed in bed this morning! Wait, there’s some targets on my nose… FRIENDLIES!! Are they flying to intercept my chasers? If I turn towards them, that’ll close the gap quicker and hopefully, they’ll scare the guys off my tail… but this heading means I’ll need to tank up or I’ll be gliding the last few miles to base and need to be towed off the runway!
You get the idea…

First, IOne, you’re not alone, quite few of BMS vpilots thinks terrain badly needs deep rework.
Good news is it’s in the works according to the BMS team. Nobody is gonna give you timeframe, because it’s not how software development works. Things may get unexpected delay just before the launch. Initial target for new terran was BMS 4.37 and iirc this still holds.Second, don’t get discouraged by dated terrain look. BMS is vast and needs lots of learning and training in usage of simulated systems, weapons, applying flying procedures and tactics . The earlier you start, the better.
Once you cross the point where where you get solid grip on systems/weapons and focus more on tactics it’s a hell of enjoyable sim, even if it looks a bit old. -
@Atlas good old games are like good books: your brain draws a picture.
-
@Foxtrot701 I view it from a different perspective — if you want to slow down and admire the view, then you want DCS. If you want to pretend to be a fighter pilot in a busy theatre, then you want BMS.
Thankfully, the BMS devs have come a long way from Allied Force or even Falcon 4.0 so the brain doesn’t need to imagine very much. I remember in Allied Force, I needed to switch between 2D cockpit where gauges were working so I can do heads-down work then back to 3D cockpit so that I can put my head on a swivel and gain/maintain SA.

Do you know when?
3-4 weeks
(j/k - couldn’t resist )
-
@SemlerPDX Is there a difference between normal weeks and Falcon weeks?
-
Falcon weeks are an ethereal entity.
-
@dumba Yes, but how many normal weeks is one Falcon week? Or does that depend on the weather on any given day?
-
@Atlas The weather strongly influences the length of my week too
-
Hey… Indeed some parts of the terrain looks tiled but I think you can definitely find better maps in bms.
I recently used reshader and with a great profile it draws very beautiful and immersive feelings, that can match …well probably in my brain… Ace Combat 04/05 ?

@Edge Ey! its looks like amazing. Very nice!. Can you share your reshade profile?
-
@Raiden-0 it’s a profile modified from a good pilot in this forum(sorry i cannot find the original post) , I will make a good trailer video about it soon and upload the profile for everyone to download, I promise.
