MFDExtractor won't remember MFD positions
-
Hi folks,
I’ve seen this exact issue described by some on the forum, but none of the suggested fixes seem to work for me. I have two 800x600 small MFD monitors sold by Trigger from the flight sim community. I have a USB-C to dual HDMI splitter which I connect both screens to, but have connected directly to HDMI and DisplayPort (via HDMI to DP adapter) to rule out any issue with the splitter mentioned above. No difference.
Anyway, everything works great the first time. I position the MFDs, size them right, and they work perfectly once in 3D. If I close and reopen MFDExtractor however, the MFDs go back to a position on my main monitor (near the top right), and only after I click recover for both of them in options. I’ve heard the suggestion to manually edit the positions in the config file found in AppData, but that gets overwritten immediately when I inevitably have to recover the MFDs. I’ve put the sizing info into the config file in the MFDExtractor folder itself which saves the size of the MFD boxes, but not their position. I don’t see where to set this in that config file.
Before someone suggests using RTT, I can’t get good frame rates from it. The radar cursor is really laggy/choppy. Everything else works fine, so if anyone has a solution to that RTT problem, I’m all ears. I appreciate any specific help one can offer. I’ve searched this forum and Google extensively trying to find an answer already, hence my post. Thanks in advance!

Try changing MFDE config file to read only.

@Icarus great suggestion and I actually did that. I think the fact that it runs as administrator makes it not respect that. Does it need to run as admin?

@Raptor-One Does it need to run as admin?
IDK. I run as admin for both client and server, but I don’t have your issue. It is something that is either overriding the config file or erasing it. Do you have exceptions in windows security?
-
@Raptor-One … ha!, when you mentioned administrator … think you have “double .ini” problem…
It is that windows “vrtualstore” when running apps elevated.
- If you installed MfdE in eg. “Program Files” , then (configuration) .ini is NOT saved in “Program Files” , then rather in “c:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files”
So… yeah … check that if you have (configuration) .ini file(s) there and in original “Program Files”
Just a … hint ?

@white_fang I have the portable version that doesn’t require me to install anywhere. I just extracted the MFDE zip contents to a folder on my C drive and run the exe from there. I see no way to stop it from running as admin. It does create a config file in AppData. Does any of this make sense?

@Icarus I didn’t make any exceptions. I’ll give it a try though. Thanks!

@Raptor-One hmmm… try moving dir to a non-system disk… if possible…
Just a try …I also have some progs in root subdir , but all is running fine… i did mess with security on files and dirs.
