Falcon BMS - Interactive Maps

The maps have currently the limitation for Edge and Chrome on Windows in favor of rendering the red highlight circle o on iPhones and iPads as kneeboards.
On Windows there seems to be an event ordering difference from macOS (the platform used to develop the CSS and JS for this). On MacOS Chrome, Safari and Firefox as well as on iOS all work properly. Only Chrome and Edge on Windows seem to have an event ordering issue (I guess the use the same underlying engine). Also measurement/ruler is disabled on tablets due to the fact that you need three finger gymnastics (2 to hold the screen lock and the other to measure. So for now it has been “soft” disabled) there is no code that checks in JS but only difference is which event listeners are used for mouse or pointer down (check the code comments if you inspect the HTML page and want to experiment yourself).
I test on:
Windows (Chrome, Edge, Firefox)
MacOS (Chrome Firefox, Safari)
iOS/iPadOS (Safari)
FireHDAs said the limitation of the highlight circle on Edge and Chrome for Windows was/is known but will work on a solution when I get some time again. But in the mean time enjoy all on Firefox on Windows or macOS

@Icer on MacOS:
Brave (full functionality and red circle)
Safari (full functionality and red circle)
Chrome (full functionality and red circle)
Firefox (full functionality and red circle). So only on Windows is there and event order issue in the Chromium code. I will try to figure out why and what can be done.

Well, the laptop I use to display Maps/Manuals is a MacBook Pro running Win 8.1 so I can solve this by simply running Firefox or booting into the MacOS!

Yes indeed.

Great job! These maps are always very useful.

@ohommes No red circle here (if you’re still looking for feedback on this) - Win 10, Chrome and Edge.

Would it be possible for the map to pan to whatever airbase is selected, to center the map on that point? I find myself scrolling and zooming a lot. It might not be easy to do though…

This should be the case already.

@jayb The interactive map on Google Chrome automatically pans to any of the air bases I select. The base selected ends up centered on the map.
-
@jayb Make sure to clear your cache and / or reload the page; I am confident that Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Brave work on Windows.
-
Thank you guys for the interactive map

Yes, it works on my desktop no problem. I should have mentioned that I have issues in Firefox on my Android phone with KTO, sorry for that.
For example, if I select Gunsan the map does pan, but onto a place in North Korea (map area 5.4). If I try Chrome on the Android phone, it pans to an area over the water (map area 2.0). Could it be some map vs. phone resolution calculation that causes this mismatch?
A small usability thing if possible and/or useful: On desktop (Firefox or Chrome) if I select, say, Osan and get the red ring and centered focus, if I then pan by scrolling the bars the ring disappears. the red marker disappears. Would be awesome to be able to find an airfield, get the red marker ring, and be able to scroll to offset the map while keeping the airfield on the screen still.

@jayb Any touch will erase the circle but I can look at changing behavior for future updates in when and how the circle gets removed. Also thinking about leaving the modal popup with the frequencies unless you explicitly cancel (today a touch outside of the model popup will close it). I have a very old Kindle FireHD with the “nakedbrowser” which has the best performance for me and I will try to get that to work which will probably make it all work for all Androids. On iPhones and iPads all work already correctly.
-
@ohommes That sounds great, thank you. If you ever need someone to test Android devices I have both a 5" phone and 12" tablet on which I can test if that could help.
Edit: Just checked that the modal freq+chart popup stays up even though scroll/pan takes place. One idea maybe: Have a button/link in that popup to recenter on the airbase in question and recover the red marker

To avoid seeing the black margin for the new charts you can install on Firefox an extension called 'Old Image Style". This will give all charts a white background and so the charts look nicer for the new chart sizes. Possibly a similar extension exists for other browsers.
