Modifying a training TE
-
Is it possible to make a copy of one of the training TE lessons, for example the mission for AAR, and then modify the copy?
I would like to give myself extra time (more fuel) to fly formation on the tanker before needing fuel.

@jcook rename the training mission by using the .tac extension (instead of .trn) then modify the mission in TE and finally rename back to .trn extension

@jcook
And, once you have done that, you can also add a script to set up the jet immediately upon entering the new lesson. Name the script “<name of your training mission>.run”Here is an example script to set up an F16CM40 for refueling training:
//Delay for freeze WAIT 1 //Start sim in paused mode SimCommand SimMotionFreeze //Text layout setup SetColor 0xffffffff SetTextBoxed 2 SetFont 3 SetTextOrientation 0 SetFlash 0 //Some text SetCursor -0.98 0.08 Print 2 "Welcome to Refueling Training with KC135R Stratotanker!" MoveCursor 0 -0.08 WaitPrint 3 "Please wait until your cockpit is set up." //Turn up DED Brightness SimCommand SimDedBrightnessCW SimCommand SimDedBrightnessCW SimCommand SimDedBrightnessCW SimCommand SimDedBrightnessCW //Set COM 1 to awacs preset 13, COM 2 to 15 SimCommand SimICPCom1 SimCommand SimICPTILS SimCommand SimICPTHREE SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPCom2 SimCommand SimICPTILS SimCommand SimICPCrus SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPResetDED //Turn on Radar Altimeter SimCommand SimRALTON //Drift CO to CO SimCommand SimDriftCOOn //Set STPT to AUTO SimCommand SimICPStpt SimCommand SimICPDEDSEQ SimCommand SimICPResetDED //Set CRUS to TOS SimCommand SimICPCrus SimCommand SimICPZERO SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPResetDED //Set up IDM SimCommand SimICPLIST SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPDEDSEQ SimCommand SimICPDEDDOWN SimCommand SimICPDEDDOWN SimCommand SimICPDEDDOWN SimCommand SimICPDEDDOWN SimCommand SimICPTHREE SimCommand SimICPTILS SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPDEDDOWN SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPTILS SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPTHREE SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPStpt SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPResetDED //TACAN to Tanker 29Y A/A SimCommand SimICPTILS SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPNINE SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPZERO SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPDEDSEQ SimCommand SimICPResetDED //Inst Mode Selector to TACAN SimCommand SimHSITcn //Set Bingo/Joker Joker 2500 SimCommand SimICPLIST SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPALOW SimCommand SimICPCrus SimCommand SimICPZERO SimCommand SimICPZERO SimCommand SimICPEnter SimCommand SimICPResetDED //ILS OFF -> set to on SimCommand SimILSOn //HUD FPM/ATT OFF -> set to on SimCommand SimPitchLadderATTFPM //Inst Panel Lights SimCommand SimInstrumentLightCW MoveCursor 0 -0.08 Print 4 "Initial setup finished. You have the aircraft." //resumes mission SimCommand SimMotionFreeze
You may need to recode (lines 81-89) the TACAN setting for whichever TACAN channel is used in your Training Mission. Using a script like this makes it easy to set up right near the tanker, without having to worry about your switch positions. You can add other commands to the script as well, to set up the jet exactly how you’d like it set up when the mission begins, following the example above.
Here’s a link to the script: Refueling AAR Mission Script Example
There is a section detailing scripting language in the BMS Technical Manual (in the …Falcon BMS 4.36\Docs folder), in Chapter 14.
By the way, you can use scripts with any in-progress flight that is either a TE (.tac) or TRN (.trn) mission.
Happy refueling!

Another option is to take fuel right away, then disconnect and dump some of the fuel with Alt+D. Then fly formation on the tanker. Connect again for refuel practice. Rinse and repeat

Thanks guys for the good information.

Just open the training file with MC and change the fuel…
