4.36U3- carrier arresting wires bug
-
the bug seems noted in U2 as well:
AI ac landing on carrier > hooked arresting wire only stretched a very limited length, and the ac stops abruptly. after few seconds, the ac jumps straight up into air , falls back to the deck, then slowly taxi away.
i test it on KTO, CVN-70, with F14A and F18C.

Hi, CCC, Have you tried the Enterprise? I don’t see that there, in any jet. Which Theater?

Please feel free to believe me or not, but it happened to me before in the previous versions and with different carriers also.
Explaination: boh?
Let’s wait and see, then…With best regards.

test in KTO, CVN65, FA-18C.
AI ac still behave like my first post.
i fly a FA18C and land on the deck, it seems the arresting wire work properly, no abrupt stop and jump upward. -

i try latest Kurile. same result.

I see the same AI behavior as ccc1tw.
It happens only with AI. It is theater independent.
No problem with own aircraft(F-18C or E).
But for me its no big deal. I can live with it. -
I don’t think the dev team will bring any attention to this for a while…
Don’t expect too much as there isn’t any love lately for naval ops…
-
thanx.
just to say… the code seems changed. it used to be smooth and perfect in 4.34/35.
-
If confirmed then it is a regression
-
@ccc1tw no… Carrier ops in 4.35 had big issues in MP…
Naval ops probably need a full revamp to have things working properly but this topic won’t probably be tackled before there is real love around the F/A-18… The mafia team won’t influence anything for sure…

CCC, you mention 4.35 carrier issues in MP. The fix for that was to make the carrier stationary. I wonder if that would help here. I remember there was a old config entry that we put in

@drtbkj even with that it wasn’t a great experience…

Different stroke for different folks, Max. It’s the whole “flare to land, squat to pee” thing

Really?
How interesting habits do you have when in flight, Fra’… I’d better to keep well in mind that in any case. With best regards.

Please provide me a TE so I can repro this.

I have observed the exact behavior ccc described above, just last night, in a self-created carrier recovery practice training mission (.trn) I recently made. 4.36U3, OFMKTO theater. F-18F AI, F-18E single player.
I had completed my landing and I was parked, shutting down my jet. I watched the AI F-18F perform its landing, stop abruptly after catching the wire (which only seemed to stretch a little bit) , and, after a short (3-5 seconds) delay, it raised the hook, jumped vertically about 6 scale feet, settled, and began taxi. It taxied back across Cats 3 and 4 area, and reached the end past the blast shields then disappeared.
I can provide the .trn and it’s files in a zip if desired.
Regards,
Tomcattwo

@Seifer the training TE repros this, stock KTO. (TR#24, Case I Recovery)
-
Set autopilot to alt-hold, 80% rpm, 10 deg bank to fly a circle. Switch radio to tower freq.
-
Hit [8] to watch AI planes from the other flight, come in for landing.
-
Watch as plane decels from 140 kts to 0 in about 10 ft. Then slowly levitates up and down as the hook is raised.
