F-16C block 30 + HTS
-
In Desert Storms I can load HTS POD on the block 30 but on the MFD the page is not available! all switches for hard points are on
-
@Alfred
HTS pods can’t be used on Block30.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Dynamics_F-16_Fighting_Falcon
-
I see, so it should have not been available on the load page. The TGP was not available although there were some GBUs in the ordinance. Must have been a theater error.
-
For Block 25 you also can choose it from Loadout page and then it is not available in-flight.
No big thing. As far as I know, HTS was developed when the F-4 were retired, becoming available 1994 for Block 50 (and higher). Later in the 2000s , it also was provided for Block 40.
Also, TGPs shouldn’t have been in the F-16 inventory in Desert storm.
There are very interesting discussions here about this subject, i.e.:
In Keith Rosenkranz’ book “Vipers In The Storm” he always just uses Mk-84, no guided bombs.
No F-16 in the theater could use AIM-7, just AIM-9 (the units that could were not in the theatre).
AIM-120 was also not available yet.
F-16 had a pure ground role with unguided bombs, Mavericks (single on hardpoints 3 and 7, no TERs, supported by LANTIRN-Pods on the Block 40) and just the Vipers in Incirlik/Turkey had HARMs (without HTS).Edit: If you want to have HTS available, join one of the two squadron with Block 40 at Al Minhad Airbase).

Thank you for the follow up. I can hit SAMs without HTS pod due to the new pos mode. But the strange thing is that in desert storm theater the GBUs are available for blk30 although the TGP is not. Going back to your description, I think the TGP was available during desert storm but perhaps wasn’t the F-16s dropping the bombs on the targets. But I remember in detail the imgaes on CNN that obviously now I can identify as TGP imagery (not confused with Maverick’s image)

Any available AAQ-14 TGP pods were given to F-15E units instead.
F-111s were using AVQ-26 Pave Tack.
Buccaneers were using AVQ-23 Pave Spike.
There were others probably OTP of my head.
Aircraft with LGBs that cannot carry TGPs need another aircraft or ground based FAC to provide the lasing to the target.

@Alfred I prefer HAS mode when flying Block 25s, it is now more in-depth with configuring ALIC codes in the thread tables and much more fun.
-
@Atze-0 why I notice that some threats (for example 2T or 3T) don’t show up on the HAS? The codes were auto in the data cartridge, so it was already coded.
-
@Alfred
Oh they are there. This isn’t much different between POS and HAS.
See page 153 in BMS-Training.pdf for ALIC codes:
You will see the 2T (code 202) only with activated Table1 when the Fan Song FCR locks you up short before launching. Until then it is more probable you see the Spoon Rest EWR as 2A with Table 2 (code 402).
Program code 102 in data card or in-cockpit over DED if you want a more generic SA-2 recognition. The same with SA-3 (3, 3T, F)Be sure to activate just the SAM types you want with UFC on HAS page. If everything is on, scanning may take over a minute. With just 2T+3T (TBL1) or 2A and F (TBL2) it just needs seconds.
I prefer it because the display is a sort of mini-HAD: You see the threats direction and distance. Together with the RWR it is quite comfortable.
Of course, I just need it in theaters like Desert Storm (if not flying a Block 40). Otherwise I will always use HAD mode with the HTS pod.

@Atze-0 yes you are right, they just turn on when I am within 10nm of the SAM’s FCR (for SA3). HARM is real fast so I only need few maneuvers before it reaches the FCR.
