I setup a four ship training flight that meets a KC10 tanker for refueling. As a four ship I can choose any position to practice formation flying and different positions in the refueling queue.
I created this from a previous two ship TE by renaming it and then using Mission Commander to add two additional ships.
It seems to work okay, F16’s 1-3 refuel - but when it comes to my turn as the fourth ship, the boom retracts and ships 1-3 depart for the next steer point. I can call the boom down again and try to refuel, but I’m alone.
STPT 5 is set as the fuel/refuel point in the KC10 and F16s flight plans. I’ve set the F16 patrol time to 1 hour between STPTs 5 and 6, (the KC10’s is set at 5 hours). My expectation was that we’d all just refuel and then hang out with the tanker for an hour. But that is not what is happening. The refueling track is ~50 miles, as I’ve been told that is the limit.
Can anyone tell me what to check in the TE to resolve being abandoned by the F16s and forgotten by the tanker?
Secondly is there a way for the 4-ship to remain with the tanker for the hour. Even if no more fuel is needed it is good practice to fly the tanker formation.

@jcook Just to confirm, you’re using version 4.36 Update 3?? And in the Korean Theater??
And does the AR work “as advertised” if you are in the lead slot? And have you tested at all in slots 2 & 3??
Feel free to add your TE for others to give it a go, but yes I have noticed bugs in the AAR code too. Mostly with F-18’s using probe/drogue refueling, although hearing of bugs with F-16’s refueling is significant.
Also, if you can try swapping the KC-10 with a -135 to see if you get the same results.

See what happens when you fly slots 1, 2 & 3. Then try slot 4 with a KC-135. Video would be great if possible, but if not describe what happens to the best of your ability.

4.36.3.This is a very cool little training scenario. Besides the refueling and its formation requirements, the mission has you landing overhead requiring holding echelon formation tightly in the overhead approach and landing on-speed at a short airstrip. Nice job, Lorik
