4.37 new ECM - CMS switch confusion
-
Hi guys,
reading the manual on th eupdated ECM it says “The operation modes of ECM (ECM priority), AVNC (Avionics Priority), and STBY are controlled by the CMS LEFT switch. The switch sequence is STBY => AVNC => ECM => AVNC => ECM. AVNC and ECM act as ECM consent. CMS RIGHT changes the operational mode to STBY. Avionics priority vs ECM priority as described above still apply.”
Ok, so tried but all CMS LEFT does is release flares. Also I see no indication of ECM mode on the hud, FCR or any display in the cockpit.
What am I missing?
Thanks!

@thunder i think the STBY are CMS Down

Yes, I think it should read CMS down.

CMS Left is for the IDIAS system. For USAF CCIP F-16, it is CMS down. BMS includes two different ECM systems. It depends on which F-16 you fly.
-
@Mystic_J Thanks, that was it, didn’t notice the title at the top of the page referred to the IDIAS.
Thanks

By the way… if you guys could give me a hand…
About the FWD and AFT antennas… when the FWD ECM antenna (XMIT 1) is inhibited, is that means that, threats IN FRONT of you are NOT going to be Jammed?
-
Correct. When you are in avionics priority mode, you silence the FWD antenna in order to protect your own onboard systems from -let’s say- autojamming them (FCR, TFR, HTS).
So, only the AFT antenna is working, meaning you are able to jam whatever is behind you.
If you don’t want that and you have to jam whatever is in front of you then you need full power of the ecm, but you will be penalized in terms of the performance of your own onboard systems.
So it’s a trade-off and a bit of a strategy game now.
-
@Mystic_J thanks!
So… low level strike with TFR is going to be harder than already is…
-
@VDK not harder, just involves a lot more strategic planning. It’s a super cool update, and if you work with it you can get right in on them. To do it though, you really need to think about how each member of your package is being used. It’s no longer hit the jammer and hope for the best, it’s how will I use the jammer to effect what I want to achieve
-
@lew0984 totally agree! And i’m in love with this new ECM system!
Greetings from Brazil!
-
@VDK it’s such a fantastic addition, especially if you love DEAD/SEAD/EW. It truly allows another level to that weasel mission!
From Australia mate, all the best for 2023!

Happy 2023 for you to!
-
@VDK - interesting…so now the Thrustmaster Warthog is the HOTAS stick of choice, because the Cougar doesn’t have CMS->dwn?
…now if we can only get an updated TQS!
-
Just to be clear:
Are we sure we really mean CMS-Down, as in pressing directly down on the button, or is it possible we’re talking about CMS-Aft?
The Dash-34 uses the term “CMS-Aft” in some places. I just wanted to make sure I was clear on what #VDK means by CMS-Down. Is it the same as CMS-Aft, or is it the “fifth function” of the CMS button, i.e. a downward press, without moving either left, right, forward or aft?
Good point, #Stevie, about how some sticks (like the TM Warthog) have that function, but others don’t.
-
@Mylonite470 the proper name of the key file callback is
SimCMSDown
but yes probably clearer to refer to it as “CMS-aft”. -
So how do you dispense program 6 on IDIAS when ECM is active? Since CMS left changes ECM priority now.

For the IDIAS, there is no program 6 on the stick CMS… only US CCIP (and I think some MLU variants) use CMS left for program 6.
For IDIAS, you’ll have to use program 5, the slap switch, which can be programmed to dispense whatever you want. It’s not a “hands on” control, but rather a button near the throttle that can be smacked with your left hand…
SimSlapSwitch 314 0 0x1F 0 0 0 1 “LEFT WALL: SLAP Switch (ECM-PGRM # 5)”
-
@mirv thanks I have suspected as much. I have already mapped slap switch on my throttle.

@danaos75 What does IDIAS stand for?
