Which of the previous BMS releases...
-
Hi,
First of all I must emphasize that this post isn’t meant to carry any disrespect or a lack of appreciation to the developers. On the contrary, I do appreciate and admire their programming skills, willingness to make the sim better and sheer enthusiasm.
There are reasons, however, why I must discontinue flying in 4.37. My question is therefore which of the previous releases would you recommend as the most stable, possibly with fewest bugs and the most reliable database. It doesn’t have to be the most realistic or best looking ;). I am prepared to move as far back as the 4.33.
Thank you in advance for any relevant input. -
@TommyGun hi, what problems do you have with 4.37 aside from the missing mouse cursor?
-
4.36 U3 was imho the most stable Falcon since a very long time, even tho the versions before all where very good.
-
@TommyGun Same boat here. Tried all versions. For me 4.33.1 is still te best version allround. Fast, features, stability, bugs wise. Newer versions have newer pro’s and newer con’s. Also newer versions need newer hardware to get the most out of it.
Not that it’s bashing of developers, it’s the path that was choosen to keep up with the future needs. Helped some people but also reason why some people stop and stay with what was good for them enjoyment and hassle wise.PS I love the way the devs are more open and working together with the users lately and pretty sure the future of falcon bms is safe in their hands
Cheers Obi1

Folks, you are free to choose whichever version you think is best. But if you wish to help, we need concrete feedback.
Sometimes the answer will be: sorry, thats is how it is. But other times, we might be able to help.

BMS 4.37 is much more optimized even running at a number of FPS equal to or better than version 4.36 and without saying that previous versions did not run as smoothly, during the passage from version to version the development team has been refining the code and squeezing every drop of juice, that shows and as I said before in another post where there was a pilot trying to run the simulator on a low-resource PC, in our wing there are pilots who fly with an average FPS between 15 to 20 and enjoy your simulator and our community, sometimes it is not having great luxuries but knowing how to enjoy what you have.

Thank you for your replies, Everyone.
@Seifer My problem with the missing mouse cursor was solved almost at the instance I posted it.
And, no, I don’t have any specific problems running 4.37, technical or other. Posting my (polite, I hope) request I was hoping for some recommendations regarding the PREVIOUS (pre-4.37) releases.
Just one more question, this time a pretty straightforward one. Can any of the previous versions be installed along with 4.37 on the same machine?
-
@TommyGun Yes all the major versions coexist side by side.
4.34 was the last to run on DX9 hardware, if that is a sticking point.
And maybe had less “stuff” to draw around cities and airbases, so easier on perf, for that reason.
-
@TommyGun your request is perfectly fine, no need to worry about it. Im just trying to understand what is wrong with 4.37 so that we can fix it.

Having several versions along is what allows campaigns, and probably theaters, conversions. So yes, of course.

Hi. The most stable existing version of Falcon4 is the 4.37 … no doubts.
If you think that 4.33 was more stable, it is only an illusion or you were particularly lucky. -
Hey Tommy,
You should definitelly go for the 4.37 for the following reasons:
-
It is indeed very stable compared to the some of the older versions. I have been flying (some MP, mostly SP) and had so far in 30+ hours no CTD etc. I think it as .34? ( or .35)…I could not finish a campaign due to CTDs…
-
You get more FPS than any other version for more graphic detail and realism(=ATC, AI, Avionics). Here depends on your machine/GPU/CPU, but the range can go up to 35% more FPS for some people.
-
The third point is a personal point of view. The integration of the AL with BMS is, IMO, a game changer. I never had in the past such a smooth transition to a new version. I really appreciate that because I am getting old, and dont have time and patience to spend a whole weekend setting stuff up anymore. But this is of course very personal.
go for it…4.37 and you will love it.

In another thread here, someone with a ~10 year old laptop… dual-core Celeron and 4GB of RAM, no discrete GPU, just integrated graphics – is reporting 30+ fps once airborn.
I don’t know what screen resolution, and presumably all graphics options dialed down… but still. I would have bet money BMS would not even start! (4.36 was having problems on 8GB laptops.) 4.37 is truly a technical wonder.

I wholeheartedly thank you all for expressing your honest opinions and giving advice… Plenty of food for thoughts, really.
The reason for the question contained in the original post would require a lengthy explanation on my part (again, no technical issues or FPS drop), so let me conclude by saying that I’ll certainly rethink it all.
Best regards to All.
