Using BMS AI JTAC
-
Hi guys.
I’m trying out the JTAC training mission using the AI BMS JTAC and having some questions about how to setup the info.
My current approach (which works) is the following; When entering the mission, I will directly go into a left turn with the ALT HOLD. I will contact the JTAC and do the check in, get ECHO information and also Requests the 9Line.
I’ve read in the manual that it advices to go to B25, but in my experiencethis is not always efficient, because if you receive an IP point for example D8 in the 9Line, you have to fly all the way back.
Thats why I directly request the 9line afther Echo in order to determine where I should setup my A/B/C/D25 holding point.
Next I will change the coordinates of the STP56 into the Echo coordinates and add an offset OA1 for the holding point (A/B/C/D25). This gives me visual cues in the HUD/HMCS where to fly.
Than I will enter the coordinates of the target for example as STP81. The big question is; what should I do with the IP info, at first I tried the VIP-TO-TGT, but realized that is not handy, because I already have the exact target information and my bomb would steer to the VIP instead of TGT.
Now i’m using the VRP-TO-TGT functionality to get some visual information inside my HUD/HMCS where the IP is in regarding to the TGT. Is this the easiest way to do it? Or am I missing something?
The IP point is sometimes a bit close to the target in order approach the target with the final heading. In the documentation the IP details are the same as the holding point, but the BMS AI JTAC gives an IP point often like B6 / D6 etc.
Last question, after succesfully killing a target, JTAC asks me if i’m capable of re-attacking. If I confirm this, Myself will automaticly reply with the coordinates of the new target? I thought the JTAC would give me those coordinates? Is that right? I never aquired a new target.
Anyway… real cool to be able to do JTAC stuff in BMS! Thanks devs!

Hi and thanks for the questions!
Indeed, your approach work as well for the holding point.
BMS doesnt give you any holding point (yet) so the B25 is just an example where you can maneuver to get a save distance to the FOAR and enough room to maneuver to stay heads down.In terms of your IP question:
Can you clarify it a little bit? I don’t understand it exactly.
The IP is there for as your initial point for the attack run from the holding to the target.Last question:
Sometimes you get new lat/long data, sometimes you have to ask for a new 9-liner. Its not clear yet to me when what happens. I have to test myself again.I hope that helps a little bit.
Cheers

Sure, to clarify. It feels that the IP point given by the AI JTAC (eg. B6) is too close to the target in order to efficiently line up the final heading (eg. 247) also given by the AI JTAC. Or am i missing something?
The second question is, is it correct that after JTAC request me to reattack if possible and I press (3 - Reattack), the auto generated response by myself to the JTAC is often a N/E coordinate? But i didn’t find/select any new target myself.
I would expect that the JTAC would give me new coordinates or just laser a target in the general area of the previous area. See communcation in attached image. Red number are my JTAC menu options, Green R is the reply of the bms jtac.
