Different HUD models
-
New to BMS here. I keep seeing youtube vids and even the training manual that shows a different HUD from the what I see.
Also in the training manual this version has a different set of CDI knobs the model that loads for me.
Where and how to I load this HUD/Model?
-
select and fly the respective F-16 variant.
-
@Tobruk The block 40/42 has a different HUD type than the othets.
-
Where would I find the menu for selecting these variants?
Block 40/42??
-
@Tobruk try in TE or DOGFIGTH. Also in a specific squadron in CAMPAING, but its much easier in the first two modes i mencioned before.
-
So the only way to choose a different block type is to create your own TE or campaign, is that correct?
You see I am doing training mission ILS bad weather landing and the manual refers to setting controls in a different block type from the one automatically assigned to me in the mission.
-
@Tobruk If the desired block type is not in the campaign or TE by default, then yes, you have to edit it in order to include your desired type of block.

The training missions are designed and documented for specific F-16 types. If you are not in the right one you have either not selected the correct one in the UI (it’s not always the first one in the list, but usually has “TRAINING” as the mission type) or it’s a bug (if so, you should log it in the Support area).

Yes, problably you are selecting wrong flight in the flights box
-
Must be a bug as there is only one option or package in the flight menu.
It is not possible to choose any thing else.
Posted as bug.

@Tobruk You are correct the training missions do not use the block 40/42 viper and you can not select other F-16 blocks for those missions. It’s not a bug, the sim is based on the block 50/52 so I believe the training missions use that block. (I might be mistaken about the missions only using that block, maybe someone can verify that.) If you want to fly the block 40/42 you will have to, as others have said, setup your own T.E. or pick a squadron in a campaign that fly that block.
-
@Carbide Thanks Carbide, I wonder why they set the Training Manual to a different model since you can’t replicate its instructions.
-
@Tobruk in older BMS releases some of the training TR’s used an older (block 15? 25?) viper.
They updated the missions, one or two major revs ago … but maybe not all of the cockpit screenshot snips peppered throughout the PDF content.
The docs are maintained by humans, who probably have fulltime jobs elsewhere – we get what we pay for!

@airtex2019
No problem, so would block 52 be considered newer older to block 40?Visually I like the look of block 40, but as far as its technically capabilities…
-
@Tobruk
It is useful to have a rough understanding how the platform evolved over the decades.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Dynamics_F-16_Fighting_Falcon_variants
-
I think they changad some panels time to time within the same blocks too. You can see the cockpit layout drawing of a block30 on xflight.de differs from an other 30 from the “F-16 Engine run, Iraq” video.

Ok. so lets go check: version 4.37? and tell us what training mission you want to do
-
I think the problem Tobruk is having is with the updated HSI. From what the OP says the training manual shows the old HSI with the selector knob to the left of the HSI. Now it is just the M button on the bottom of the display that changes modes on the HSI.
-
I haven’t flown the AAR training mission in 4.37, but I believe one of the flights on it is a Block 40/42 with the WAR HUD. There are a couple non-USAF Block 50/52(+) variants that use that WAR HUD too, but those variants aren’t used in the training missions.

50/52 are the same except for the engine. The 50 is the GE, and the 52 the PW. The engines are more powerful and slightly more fuel efficient that the earlier models. There is no reason to fly anything else, as the older blocks are not entirely accurate. I’d love to see a fully modelled F-16A Block 5 short tail, but I guess that’ll stay on the wishlist.
