Small update from the front Q1 2023
-
Hello folks, you haven’t heard from me for a while, that means we were busy
We delivered the last two releases on schedule, which was a great thing. Both initial 4.37 and U1 went as planned and I hope everyone is enjoying BMS 4.37 by now (we tried to tackle with the most critical bugs as well as we could).
Our plan was to go with a longer run now, something for middle of the year. But real time telemetry was brought to our attention and as it can affect big multiplayer events we decided to go on another short run before the longer one.
So we are working on ways to disable or make it more restricted (for example, with password). Our plan is to try to deliver it by the end of this month, we will see how it goes. There will also be some minor changes, mostly fixes (seat position in VR for example), we are trying to play safe to avoid having to do another short run.
For mid year, we expect to have a bigger release of 4.37, which will be an intermediary step towards the future. This one will be riskier, so its quite likely that we will need a short run after that. But if all goes well, our plan is to reach end of year closer to the new terrain we are all dreaming of.
I must admit, though. that end of year is a risky bet. I wont promise anything, all I can say is that we will try. But there are many variables in between right now, so let’s see what the next releases bring so we can have more (hopefully) good news.
The great news is that we have new coders in the team, some that joined recently, others that came back. It seems 4.37 really brought some enthusiasm back
Thanks all for keeping the flame alive, keep on flying!

@Seifer Thanks again for your updates and happy to see this honest behind the curtain again from you and the rest of BMS!
Hoping for big things for the 25th anniversary (coughcough 4.38) at the end of the year but even then 4.37 is still an amazing thing! Form the dark days of all the source code fights and C&Ds and etc., I would have never imagined when I first bought Falcon 4.0 on 12/15/1998 this is were we would be. Thank you BMS for keeping Falcon a thing for literally my full adult life!

Thanks for update, lots of fantastic news.
About meeting the schedule, don’t worry, all the guys here are busy flying 4.37 and changing their underwear, because of how awesome BMS has become.
The thing that makes me happy are the devs joining in. I think it is important BMS is able to attract fresh blood. That means it is growing strong and will become even better. -

@Seifer thank you to all whom put in effort and time for most of passion a passion or a hobby nonetheless
A big THANKS !

@Seifer my old friend Seifer. that out of our lives without your long-awaited update notifications.
The community has really been rejuvenated with new talent and it shows. quality material and the old ones that carry out their work to which we are accustomed.
Not only the telemetry, I as a mere mortal among us have noticed it, these constant updates have aroused interest even in our wing, the recent addition of new pilots has been noticed.
The forum is burning with activity all the time, the creation of content on YouTube and other social networks about falcon bms skyrocketed.
We are going strong and the future that is coming looks impressive, so without a doubt I can say how it is said in my land
HERE IS FALCON FOR A TIME

I’ve been MIA from BMS for over a decade.
My how things have changed!
From the time I’ve started gathering new equipment, to now starting to set everything up, BMS has rolled out a major update AND a U1.
I used to have Years to read the changelog!
What ever happened to “3-4 Weeks” being an inside joke?!?
Thank You to all responsible, I am Very impressed with Your efforts!

That is a terrible joke. That together with “ask for your money back”.
Being part of a free product do not exempt you from delivering something of quality. And to deliver top quality work, some planning is needed.
When I was in the other side of the community (I mean, not a dev), I did not enjoy not knowing anything about what was going on behind the scenes. Kinda left me in the dark. By sharing the news, we give the community some feedback and also show our compromise with everyone.
I said this before, but IMHO, we are all one. Community is the reason for BMS existence and BMS is made of the community. This creates a cycle, which must be fueled to run. Devs are not gods, and community is not a paying customer who is always right. We must help each other.
Of course, that is not everyone’s opinion. But as long as I am part of the dev team, I will treat the community as I would like to be treated.

You earned the well-deserved position of developer and these lines prove it. wise words that show commitment, dedication and as an extra you have the virtue of interacting with us and taking us into account in our opinions and mistakes. I know that the DEVs are not gods, but you have won the award of saint, so from now on I baptize you as Saint @Seifer patron saint of all users of this community, bringer of new news and merciful of the 3-4 weeks falcon.

I think you got it right @Seifer this mentality has prompted me to get off my own ass and post my first bug report. The BMS team is already highly respected by the community and sharing that feedback in return will generate even more positive feedback from the users.
Top job by the Devs, whoever you are, 4.37. is such a game changer, I feel it will be so much easier to convince potential pilots to take the plunge and get into BMS.
Congrats!

You guys rock!
Thank you for what you are doing.
