Windows 10 and BMS 4.33 - ALT+TAB
-
Does anyone else have problems with ALT+TAB’ing between Windows 10’s desktop and BMS when running in full screen mode?
I can change from BMS to the desktop just fine, but changing back into BMS results in the screen staying black. The 3D view sometimes comes back when I click the mouse, but other times, nothing helps at all and I have to kill BMS’ process.
Windows 10 x64 and BMS 4.33 x64; NVidia GPU with 355.82 drivers.
I’m not sure if this is an already known problem with Win 10 and 4.32 as I set Falcon aside for a bit before I’ve upgraded the OS.
The forum search couldn’t find anything useful on that subject. It could very well be a conflict between Win 10’s new Desktop Windows Manager and BMS. And it wouldn’t be the first one as FSX can’t draw fullscreen menus in DX9 mode either.
My workaround so far is running BMS in windowed mode (-windowed command line switch) and then use a tool like BorderlessGaming to blow BMS’ window up to full screen size. Works very nicely for ALT+TAB, but I still need to figure out if I can get rid of the Windows mouse cursor when in the 3D environment.

Sometimes i have this problem sometimes not
Try to have at least 1 programm running so you can alt + tab to it

I have same issue, I just use the left WIN key instead without issue. Can pop out, check my TrackIR settings, then jump right back in. When I Alt+Tab, it sometimes locks up or will not go back into BMS - or come out of BMS.
Good luck!

Thanks for the input, guys!

I’ve heard some people have better luck with Ctrl+Esc for the start menu pop up. But if you do much alt tabbing I suggest running windowed/CDExtractor.

As a beta tester on Windows 10 and been thanked by MS greatly in the usual fashion of yes its working now we will release a f***d up version ready to charge everyone for a fully working version.
Recommendation. Those lucky enough to have the DVD and done a clean install of windows 10, remember not everyone has done the drivers for your machine yet. Should your machine or components therein be over three years of age then forget support for windows 10 there wont be any. Make do with the generic drivers issued with windows 10.
Those who have upgraded to 10 and have machines older than 3 years remember this, IF YOU REVERT BACK TO WINDOWS 7 BE IT A LEGAL COPY OR A HACKED COPY, THEN YOU WILL LOSE YOUR LICENSE INFORMATION IN THE CHANGE BACK AND WILL HAVE TO RE ENTER YOUR WINDOWS KEY AND DONT BE SURPRISED IF ITS A GENUINE KEY AND DOESN’T WORK. ALL LICENSING FROM WINDOWS 7 AND 8 IS DELETED BY WINDOWS 10 AND AS THE OS IS UNLICENSED AT PRESENT THEN THE STORING OF IT IS NOT DONE SO MAKE SURE YOU KNOW YOUR WINDOWS 7, 8 , 8.1 KEY NUMBER BEFORE YOU HIT THE RESTORE KEY OR YOU IMMEDIATELY GO INTO THE 30 DAY TRIAL.
Sorry thats in caps.
Windows 10 doesnt like anything legacy, not just Falcon, and as for Alt Tab or Ctrl + Esc both should work faultlessly, if they dont then check your display drivers for an updated version suited for Windows 10, you may have to reinstall the motherboard chipset drivers to overright the microsoft ones which are known to cause this issue with a lot of programs. Sorry not my fault blame Microsoft. These changes are ones as testers we have had to do frequently to get things to work.
Those wanting to revert back to Windows 7, do so with a clean install, it takes way less time to do than sorting out the mess of registry screw ups during the reversion and remember to reinstall ALL drivers regardless.

I have exactly the same issue.
Sometime it works, sometime it works not, even if I have another program running where I may switch to. Could not figure out where this depends to. Killing all unnecessary background processes including Anti Virus doesn’t help.
Win 10 64 bit with all updates, Skylake i7 Core 6700k, 32 gb ram, Nvidia GTX 970, SSD, 3 TB Disk. So it is a brand new system with latest drivers. There were no other OS previously, just a fresh install.
Regards
Blacksheep[Edit] Starting BMS in Win7 compatibilty mode reduced the behaviour at 50%. BMS no longer hang up all the time when tabbing to the Desktop but in 5 of 10 cases.

Yeah I’m having this problem as well; also Windows 7>10 upgrade. I thought it was just the borderless gaming settings not working. I will keep an eye on this thread…
DOH! My borderless window setting WEREN’T working! I had my Display extraction set up from the main menu but I’d managed to untick ‘Cockpit Displays to External Windows’ setting in the config app
It still doesn’t ALT+TAB all that smoothly but at least I can see both screens now.

BMS and ALT + TAB are just not friends…
Do whatever you have to do before you launch the game, and after a sortie, restart the game and check what you have to do while you closed the game…
