ground attack / AI Behavior / issue with "Attack Targets" order

@suhkoi69 said in AI Behavior / ground attack:
I have planned an AI mission to the Balkans with an asymmetric configuration (2 CBU105 + GBU54).
I would like to know if it is normal for the AI to drop all its bombs in one shot (or one pass) on a tank column .
I was surprised to see this. I don’t know if the asymmetric configuration could be the cause of this behavior. Ideally, I 'd have liked that some bombs were dropped one by one ( for example with JDAMs & LGBs)
Otherwise, to better understand the AI behavior, what does it happen when the IA drops bombs on target ? if the configuration is only:
- 4 LGBs
- 4 CBUs
- 4 Dumb Bombs
- 4 JDAMs
Depends on mission type and target and bombs
-
@Mav-jp Here, in my case, you can see that it does not make sense to drop 2 GBU54 simultaneously on moving tanks…I guess the targetting mode is GPS …but normally, the laser targeting mode should have been used and only one bomb should have been dropped.
now for CBU105s, I can understand that IA drop 2 bombs simultaneously … -
@Mav-jp I tested the following cases :
Air interdiction mission on a moving Tank column (KTO)// 4 GBU54 // per aircraft // 4 wingmen // order : Attack Targets
—> only the N°2 has a correct behavior : he dropped on 4 different targets
—> for The N°3 and N°4 : each dropped 4 bombs on a single target but their target was different.see video here
// 4 GBU12 // per aircraft // 4 wingmen // order : Attack Targets
—> the N°2 N°3 & N°4 have a correct behavior :they dropped on 4 different targets with 1 bomb
—> but the “Attack Targets” Order didn’t work as written in the BMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdf
in the manual, it is written “In air to ground mode, the AI will attack targets belonging to the same batallion of the targeted vehicle (or same objective than the feature targeted) . They may execute multiple passes until you call them to rejoin.”
instead of this, they rejoined the formation after the first pass and I had to repeat the order 4 times ( Attack Targets)// 4 CBU105 // per aircraft // 4 wingmen // order : Attack Targets
—> only the N°2 has a correct behavior : he dropped on 4 different targets
—> for The N°3 and N°4 : each dropped 4 bombs on a single target but their target was different.// 4 CBU97 // per aircraft // 4 wingmen // order : Attack Targets
—> the N°2 N°3 & N°4 have a correct behavior :they dropped on 2 different targets with 2 bombs but they missed their target with huge gap
—> but the “Attack Targets” Order didn’t work as written in the BMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdf. Unlikely the previous case, impossible to reiterate the order : “attack target” order was grey whereas there was targets// 4 AGM65D // per aircraft // 4 wingmen // order : Attack Targets
—> the N°2 has a correct behavior :they dropped on 2 different targets with 2 missiles
—> for The N°3 and N°4 : each dropped 2 missiles on a single target but their target was different.
—> but the “Attack Targets” Order didn’t work as written in the BMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdf. like the previous case, impossible to reiterate the order : “attack target” order was grey whereas there was still targets// 4 MK82// per aircraft // 4 wingmen // order : Attack Targets
—> the N°2 N°3 & N°4 have a correct behavior :they dropped on 2 different targets with 2 bombs
—> but the “Attack Targets” Order didn’t work as written in the BMS-Comms-Nav-Book.pdf. like the previous case, impossible to reiterate the order : “attack target” order was grey whereas there was targets
–>one remark; if there are AA/Manpad on place, as the wingmen dive to drop their bombs, then they die because they are too low -

depends on the mission type
Make a CAS

Btw
If you want wingman to engage multiple targets use weapons free air ground
If you use “attack targets” they will pick one target from the target area then make one pass (unless target not destroyed first pass) and rejoin
-
@Mav-jp I will do it to compare with AI mission
but I wanted to point the issue met with AI mission : in this case, according to you, is the behavior normal for 3 & 4 ? because it is quite different from 2…no?

its not different
attack target is only one pass unless target not hit first pass…
could be that #2 is less lucky
if you want AI to engage multiple target just issue a weapons free AG
-
@Mav-jp it is confusing …perhaps, the documentation should be improved because I don’t read the same thing regarding 'attack targets"
more there is another thing : I met some cases where after the 1st pass, “attack Targets” order was greyed whereas there were still targets…( for CBU97, MK 82 & AGM65)
I will try to do a video … -
In documentation, it would be nice to describe to IA Air Ground behavior according to mission & weapons…
I don’t know how to do assign juste one GBU54 on one target to my Wingman…
-
@suhkoi69 - I agree. The documentation for ‘Attack Targets’:
“In air to ground mode, the AI… …may execute multiple passes until you call them to rejoin.”
seems to contradict what Mav-jp stated above:
“… attack target is only one pass unless target not hit first pass…”
