Unsolved Constant 4.37 CTD
-
First of all, I’d like to ask all of you to excuse my english, it’s not my native language.
I’v recently upgraded from Falcon AF (yes, I played it until recently) to BMS. Since some days ago I’ve been experiencing constant CTD when loading the 3D World. It’s funny, but I can, usually, play missions in a new campaign, but if I load a previous save, the game CTD.
I was reading the log files and they all seem to report a kernelbase.dll issue. I’ve done some online research and I have even restored my system to a previous saved restoration point of last week. I didn’t work. I’d like to ask you for your help, if possible. Any aditional information you might need, please ask and I’ll provide it.
I’ve also tried several reinstalls.

@CarlosNader hey Carlos
Can you please reproduce the bug in KTO?
-
This is virtually certain to be a mangled data file looking at the crashlog signature. The code is attempting to read a file expecting information in a certain format and the content of the file doesn’t match…this crashes the code.
Have you by chance used any tools to edit the scenario that you are attempting to load?? Can you think of any other reason that the files might have been altered from their original saved state??
It is possible that if this is a saved game that the save didn’t work right but if that’s the case, we might need to try and replicate the steps you took to get to the state of the game when it was saved in this apparently broken state.
If you could say a bit more about which theater this is…are we talking about a campaign or a TE…is it a problem with all saved games or just one in particular…a little more information might help us figure out next steps to resolve.

The above crash is from a fresh new reinstall of the game, without addons ou mods, if I’m not mistaken.

The crash log I posted above is from a fresh reinstall of the game. So, I hadn’t messed with the game at all, excep from using the patch the new launcher has (the one with the orange icon). My system specs are low end, so I do the necessary graphic adjustments there.
I wouldn’t how to mess with the kernelbase.dll file. So, if any other program did, it’s beyond my knowledge. Although, I can tell you I did not install any other programs, except for Weapons Delivery Planner, since of lately, when I started experiencing the CTDs.

The problem ocurred with every saved game file I created, when loading the 3D World (after the screen with the countdown timer). Initially, it only ocurred when I played KTO. The other scenarios seemed ok.

The first crash ocurred last week, after I uninstalled some theaters that weren’t to my liking. I thought it was something caused by one of those theaters. So, I wiped BMS out of my system and reinstalled it. The problem continued, but only when playing KTO.
Then, after many reinstallings of the game and some guessings of my part as to what could be causing the CTDs, I posted the error log.
Yesterday, after I posted it, I decided to give it another try. I restored my system back to a point of last week, before the issues began. But to no avail. Unfortunately, I didn’t back up the dump file… It went away when I, for the tenth time, uninstalled the game.
I reinstalled the game again. but this time I ‘killed’ McAfee antivirus before doing so, the best way I could, preventing it from self starting again.
This time, it seems to have worked. I started the game, saved two campaigns, left the game, ran it again… and no CTDs…
This morning (it’s zulu -3 where I live) I ran the game again and the save files were fine. I could get to the 3D world without issues. Let’s hope the problem is gone.
I could say, after days with this problem, that I think it was an antivirus issue.
Is it possible to have been the antivirus?
Thank you both for your time. And once again, I ask you to excuse me, for english is not my mother language. It makes expressing oneself harder.

Is it possible to have been the antivirus?Of course, have you looked into your AV’s “Quarantine” area to see if it has locked down any BMS files?
-
Yes, I did it, after I saw it was the AV. It had a file there, I can’t quite remember the name of it, but it’s used during the instaltion process. I can, in a few hours when I’m back home, get the name and post it here.
What I think is quite confusing is that I was playing the game quite constantly last week, after I got a new hotas, without issues. And the game had been installed in my system, at the time, with the AV running.
-
Considering I have reinstalled the game and it seems everything is fine, I could make my AV active again, right? It shouldn’t mess with the gameplay and cause CTD, right?

The crash log above literally says you are flying Panama theater. No?

Do not focus on kernelbase.dll … that is just the layer of Windows that is reporting and recording the error. Boxer already analyzed the root of the crash, from the log – it’s under
Falcon BMS.exe, TheaterList::SetNewTheater()
which points to corrupt theater data files. There is no need to do a system-restore or rollback windows updates… and in general, I would always avoid that, unless I knew beyond shadow of a doubt that a windows-update caused a problem.
AV has been problematic lately… I’d recommend setting an exclusion folder for all of C:\Falcon BMS 4.37 … then, of course, only downloading BMS and addons from sources you strongly trust.
-
Yes, it really does. Although I had uninstalled all of them.
-
All theathers were downloaded from the sources here in the forum. I’ll keep my BMS vanilla for the time being…. Just to play it safe. There’s a lot of fun in KTO…. But my guesses go to the AV. The problems indeed began when I uninstalled some theathers. So, there’s some logic when the log points to a theater folder. Thank you all for your attention to my problem. Gonna go see if all is ok with the campaign…. Again
-
@CarlosNader sounds like some/all of theater-uninstallers have been problematic, for folks.
it’s probably not hard to reach in and clean up the BMS directory manually… and update Theater.lst file, etc. but I don’t know all the steps required, so won’t try to advise how to do that.
