Stuck in shifted mode pinky
-
Hi guys
When I press the pinky to go into shifted mode and trim I get stuck in shifted mode.
I have a cougar and a x65 connected with the x65 as the stick and the cougar as throttle.
Everything works until I press the pinky, I can’t remember if there are something with the x65 pinky that need to be changed for it to work properly, any thoughts?Regards

does your keyfile have the shifted layer set correctly?
Mine did not, and this caused me quite some grief… my solution was to disable the shifted layer functionality completely using the bms cfg.

It gets stuck because you don’t release it.
You press button “N” to enable SimHotasPinkyShift but you must release button “N+256” (assuming default shift amount) to release the function. Assuming you are using a DX button (not keyboard) you need SimHotasPinkyShift to appear 3x in your .key file:
#1: Keyboard entry with “Label” in quotes probably 0xFFFFFFF because it’s not bound
#2: DX entry to press it as the low number button
#3: Copy of #2 but a button with a number +256 -
I use the bms-all key file.
And the trim is mapped to the pov hat in shifted mode by default. The problem is that the pov hat doesn’t have a normal dx number so it’s kinda hard to map it.

If you open your BMS - All.key in notepad, at the bottom will be the DX button entries for your joystick and throttle. you should see the entry for your pinky button that will look somewaht like this:
SimHotasPinkyShift 2 8 -2 0 0x0 0
The highlighted number is the important one, and will probably be a different number in your key file, and could even be a number as high as the 40s. What you need to do is make a copy of this line below it, and change that highlighted number by adding 256 to it, in my example, the new number would be 258.
This allows the sim to register you calling the PinkyShift command while both shifted and unshifted, whereas before the sim only saw the command when you were unshifted, and couldn’t see you requesting to shift back once you were in shifted mode.
If you’d like to learn more about why this is needed, read the keyfile manual in the Docs folder of your BMS installation.

Ok I will see what it says, I thought the text in the text file said it should be untouched, but as I’ve got two hotas connected there might be something I need to adjust, thanks

@EyebrowZing:
Yep, that was it, I missed to change the +256 for the x65 stick. Works fine now, thanks.
