WartHog Replacement Parts
-
FYI…
As I was ordering replacement parts for my aging Cougars, I asked if I could order a replacement micro stick mouse switch and CMS H4 (mine had spikes in them from the beginning, but I didn’t want to send it back). They said yes, and that there wouldn’t be any instructions or help with it. I assume since my stick is >1 year old they had no problem selling me parts rather than requiring I send it in for repairs if still on warrantee (he asked how long I had it). So the good news is that parts can be had now (news to me anyways). Not cheap though, those two parts are $45 while a bunch of the Cougar parts were only $15.
For you guys that use your WartHog a lot and have worn things out, what parts go first?

Parts came into today all the way from France. Pretty fast really.

Hi AV8R
Did you phone Thrustmaster Technical support for the Warthog spare parts?
Regards,

Yes at first to get the ball rolling, as I wasn’t getting anywhere with their website contact email GUI. Even digging out an older email address (which was same as today) I got no where in over a week. So I called them and then they sent me an email to verify my addressed worked for them. From there I had a reference number on the email and we did all the follow up via it.
I ordered both WartHog and Cougar parts, and the first of two orders came in but was missing some purchased parts so they are addressing that and Im waiting on the second order as well. The order coming from Canada is post office so they couldn’t give me a tracking number. The order that came from France did have a tracking number because it was via FedEx. The parts that arrived were the WartHog parts.

Thanks AV8R. I’ll keep it in mind if I ever need to contact them.

Posted this also under Cougars, I have both…
Almost 2 weeks later, most all the parts from France and Canada have arrived
Well they messed up a d sent gimbal springs and not trigger ones. Emailed them again.
Overall they did OK, but we have about a 24 email thread going. -
ouch. well, when I dealt with them, there was no worries like this. I placed my order using the codes from flyfoxy.com, and received what I wanted. I guess Ill have to fix up my trigger detent when I get my FCC3…
-
Exactly why I’ve ordered them. You are well informed sir.
-
well its the reason I ordered them too, but because I ordered the cougar so I could get an FCC3, the trigger detent has not bothered me yet… I havent even flown with my cougar since I bought it. I use the throttle, but I refuse to step away from the Force sensing X65 until I get my FCC3…
so the trigger spring is (I hope) still in my desk drawer, waiting to be used
EDIT: yup, still there!
under about 9 gigs of RAM, a couple of SLI adaptors and a set of high quality playing cards - but still there.

I have used my warthog regularly for a little over a year and nothing is worn out yet. I would be curious to know what wears out too so that maybe it can be prevented.

TeeSquare,
Such a great question, this is what I asked too in post #1, still no takers.
Same questions applies to the Cougar as well, but that one we have a lot more history and data to go by.As for me, I have had problems with:
- red pinky button on the left most throttle handle grip (stated in another posting, several people have seen this too)
- Grey CMS stick thumb side H4 has come with a too lose action and wasn’t working in one direction reliably (probably a bad hat switch from day one)
- some folks are already seeing problems with the center play
- worst of all, I know a guy DownUnder who had to go through 3 WHs until he had one that wasn’t bricked (bad electronics in the throttle) right out of the box. Lots of those if you google it, but probably low overall percentage wise, like maybe 1/1000? Fairly typical for production runs, but more were in the lower serials AFAIK.
As for me, my very first 10 year old plus Cougar still works fine. Barely a scratch or rub and that with thousands of hours on it. Only had some problems with the brake shoe, H2 paint wore off. A few years ago I converted her to a FCC1, and now as a backup for my other newer Cougar which is now setup as a FCC3.
In the FCC3 installation instructions, White Eagle states that there are generally two types of stick users:
a. those that pull very hard on the cougar sticks, for these use manual calibration.
b. those that pull very gently on the cougar sticks, for these use auto calibration.
Both users get full deflection and Gs in turns, but each have different forces placed on the Cougar and FCC and thus need to be calibrated differently.I go one step further, being a type-B user… that is to say my Cougars last a long long time because Im not hard on the hardware. Sure shitski and happen anyways, but generally less stress on them makes them last longer. My flying style is more COOP than PvP, that too may play into this longevity function.
Cheers/m

Update on my Warthog and Cougar replacement parts orders. This is email number 25 since I started this 2 weeks ago….
Good thing I posted my parts received, because thats essentially what Customer Support wanted as proof before correcting their wrong springs sent to me.
I inturn sent them that picture to prove what I did get. They happily said keep them and the right ones will be sent out.So be patient and polite, and it will all work out eventually.

Hi guys,
I’m an happy owner of the Warthog since a year ago, more or less. I use generally the stick and throttle for about one hour a day, and not 7/7 days a week.
The strange thing is that I have two buttons worn, and exactly the Gun Trigger and the Trim Switch, as you can see in the pics above:Have you some easy and not expensive suggestions to solve this issue?
Thanks for your help, regards! -
Red nail polish for the trigger seems like it would meet your criteria of easy and inexpensive. Not sure how well it would adhere though so use at your own risk lol
