NWS problem
-
You must have the AAR closed before enabling NWS - not sure if this is a bug or a feature
Works as designed - meaning: as in R/L.
-
well I take it all back then, clearly the HAF have a different F-16ā¦
-
Got a question about it :
If someone had used the alternate gears release, does the reset alternate release function fix it back to normal mode operation or just reset the button in the cockpit ? -
if you use alternate gear release, and the reset it (retracting the gear in the process), NWS should still be inoperative, according to the aforementioned doc.
Rightstuff has indirectly called its accuracy into question though.
after the reset, the normal mode of operation for landing gear should operate, however the alternate release will not work a second time, as it uses stored pneumatic pressure that cannot be refilled in flight.

Meanwhile I tried to find out, where I found the source for my referencing to āR/Lā.
I only had a hit in Red Dogs Dash-1 (Chapter 3.8.1 - Landing with a blown tire).
As you are quoting from an original F-16 handbook, I have to put my assertion into questionā¦ -
lazystone, what exactly are you up toā¦ this time?
Rightstuff, I assume it hasnt changed but some things do over time - it wouldnt be the first time I have quoted such a T.O. and been told that its not the case anymore.
I checked the greek CJ -1 (T. O. GR1F-16CJ-1), and the one I have is over a decade oldā¦ and its not for a USAF jet. I have an older USAF one, but it is for the A/B modelā¦ and it does not mention anything about the NWS not working after an alt release.

Both NWS and LG system are powered by the āBā System Hydralic. The thought being if the āBā System Hydralic fails it canāt lower the LG or power the NWS.
It sounds like the NWS should work when the AAR door is open. However the AAR door overrides the NWS light.
I donāt understand why there is not a warning for the AAR door being open. Iāve flown missions and didnāt reliese it was open until I had to pull high gās.
-
there is a light on the indexer for AAR door openā¦
and yes, they both run off hydraulics B. thought or not though, that doc does state that
The NWS is electrically controlled using dc bus No. 1
power and is hydraulically operated using system B
pressure. Steering signals are provided through the
rudder pedals. Should NWS be engaged with the
rudder pedals displaced, the nosewheel drives to the
rudder pedal commanded position. NWS is limited to
32 degrees in each direction; however , turn radius can
be reduced by using inside brake. NWS is
automatically disengaged when the NLG strut is
extended. NWS is not available following an
alternate LG extension and may not be available
anytime the nosewheel WHEELS down light is not
illuminated. -
Hello guys
I have a problem with NWS.
When I start the mision, in Taxy, for exampleā¦.if I push NWS buttonā¦NWS works, all ok, indexer lightā¦all ok
Well, I take off and return to base to landingā¦touch down and the NWS button doesnĀ“t work. No NWs and, of course, no indexer light.
IĀ“ve made this test using the NWS option in setup, but the same result.
By the wayā¦IĀ“m using Kolbe keymap and deejay cougar profile, with all the Cougar setting as DiretcX buttons.
Any idea to solution this problem?
Thanks in advance.
You should be using button 5 on the cougar stick to engage NWS. On the ground can you turn on/off/on/off etc etc (confirmed in right eyebrow) ?
You speak as if this is a constant problem to you and as its highly unlikely that you are deploying the landing gear with the emergency ALT Release (why would you? ) thats sounds like a non issue despite being spoken much about here.

Wondering if any of this is related to the NWS-cycle and the AAR disconnect being the same switch/keybind?
Also whether the weight-on-wheels function has any impact with respect to the OP?
-

Yes, the AAR door light is next to the switch. Itās hard to see.
And I can see why the alt LG would have to disable steering hydraulics to rotate the nose wheel 90* with the gas system after exiting the wheel well.
-
Yes Blueā¦ā¦thas was the problem, using Alt G (Alt Gear) when I have to use Ctrl G (Down Gear).
Thank you very much

I think we must be talking about different lights hereā¦
I was talking about the light on the right indexer, which indicates your AAR switch is open.
I also noted that NWS is not disabled by having the AAR door open, but you cannot toggle it with the door open.
NWS is onā¦
so I turn the AAR switchā¦
To āOPENā
I then get the RDY Indexer lightā¦
Until I hit the NWS button againā¦
glad you got it sorted Skorp.

funny to dig this post up from last year. Flounder and I just flew a mission that i had to back out of due to an apparent glitch (not a constant problem as alluded to in OP, which I hope has been fixed by now! ) where my NWS would not activate on ramp start. button worked (cycled AAR door, pressed button and disconnect was initiated, confirmed AAR door closed after) and no faults were detected in any system. backed out to desktop, rejoined, everything worked perfectly.

As other posts have talked about Iād bet you accidentally initiated the Alt Landing Gear which automatically disables NWS. Iāve never had the NWS not engage from a ramp start. The next time you see this try to right click on the Alt Landing Gear handle to reset it and see if the problem goes away. If it does Iād look at your key file/HOTAS config to verify that you donāt have a goof there.
-
it was during ramp start. there was literally no way i accidentally pressed alt+g, which i have confirmed set for alternate.
but it was something (among the myriad odd other things) that we didnāt think to check, and will in the future. -
The alt gear handle (and itās pneumatic pressure vent button) are both clickable and they are dangerously close to the canopy lever and TW AUX panel. As far as AAR door being open. I think NWS works while the door is open but the button to toggle NWS on and off is being used so youāre stuck in whatever state NWS is in while the door is open.
-
now there, sir, you may have a pointā¦.i wonder if i clicked it
and if so, if the WOW switch affects it. Iāll do some testing later tonight. -

WOW switch should not affect ALT gear at all. IIRC
Current WOW doesnāt affect alt gear extension or AAR door function. Both work on the ground just fine.
