Range knob not working in Dunc profile
-
Hi,
I set the Dunc_DX profile to my Cougar and configure everything according to the read me document.
Everything is working fine except for the Range Knob.
In the Avionics control screen I can see that the little range bar (circled in red in the attached image) is responding when I move the Range Knob on the Cougar.
Still in the game I don’t see any respond to it in the radar.
Am I missing something here?Thanks

question is: what do you expect to happen in the radar ???
range knob is NOT for changing the range of the radar.
In current blocks it is renamed to radargain (and that is what it does => changing the gain in AG modus for presision scanning)
For bigger steps in gain use the MFD rocker up/down -
Thanks a lot spit.
Now it is clear.
Since I was using Jagstang profile in the past, which is very similar, I did expect it to change the Range (as you said).Thank you for the clarification

Could anyone answer me how the Range knob is actually supposed to work, physically speaking?
I noticed there’s a detent in the middle, which I’ve always found a bit odd, as in Dunc’s profile (and possibly my HOTAS setup?), it works as a 0-100% axis (e.g. middle being 2.5x zoom on TGP). Is this correct, or should it work more as a zoom in/out knob, with the middle being the “zero position”? In my opinion and feeling, that would make a bit more sense, actually, but I could be dead wrong of course…

Maybe I’m also wrong but as I understand your question and the term “radar gain” it is the level of details you are getting back from the radar signal.
If you increase it you will get more details if you decrease it you will get back only the strong emitting objects. -
Manual Range/Uncage/Gain (MAN RNG/UNCAGE) Control
Use of the MAN RNG/UNCAGE control is mode dependent and serves several purposes. MAN RNG/UNCAGE is actually a combination of two seperate control types. The UNCAGE switch is activated by depressing and releasing the MAN RNG knob. When in air-to-air gun modes and radar ranging is not available, the MAN RNG knob is used to select one of two manual ranges. Manual range is set to 1500 feet if the knob is rotated clockwise of center and 700 feet if the knob is rotated counter-clockwise of center. The selected value is displayed digitally on the HUD. The target is at the selected range when (1) the correct wingspan has been entered via the DED and (2) the pilot closes until the wings of the target just fill the inside of the manual ranging reticle if using LCOS, or just fit inside the funnel when using EEGS.
The control is also used in air-to-ground, ground map modes to vary the radar gain. Rotating the knob clockwise increases the radar gain. The gain effect of the knob is to add or subtract from the base value set by the gain rocker switch on the MFD. In GMT and DBS modes, moving the knob fully clockwise results in 100 percent gain regardless of the rocker switch setting. In GMT, this knob controls gain of moving target radar returns.
The UNCAGE switch is used to cage/uncage missiles, remove the AGM-65 dome cover, and provide AGM-65 weapon video. top

Spit,
By increasing gain in AG mode will this increase the probability of a guided weapon hit,or does it give the user a sharper image to lock a weapon on to? thereby increasing
hit probability. -
this doesn’t have effect on weapon range. u just see more or less area that is scanned by the radar antenna. So to focus (or use zoom functions/modes) to your area of Interest or declutter the returns u get in the screen and distinguish your target.
u could have it in 80nm but your weapon will fire within 25nm. u can lock the target or mark it when outside weapon envelop and when u get within u can release your weapon. So it depends mostly on your weapon type and not the radar distance u select to see.
