Perhaps A novel Warthog profile Using the T.A.R.G.E.T. Software?
-
My setup uses:
2 cougar MFD’s
Warthog Throttle and Stick
track IRI’m building a warthog profile and have most of the basic functionality done. The joystick functions are faithful with the BMS mappings.
What’s novel about my profile is that the four identification LEDs on the cougars light on:
MFD 1 L flicker to indicate throttle position and lights solid for afterburner,
MFD 1 R lights to indicate that air brake is out and turns off when the air brake is commanded to closeMFD 2 L flickers to indicate that any button has been pushed
MFD 2 R lights to indicate that the shift button (TG1) is being held downThe five LEDs on the throttle light up in synchronization with the position of the throttle with LED five indicating afterburner as well.
There are many shift functions assigned to the cougar buttons to control frequently used commands.
Besides this functionality PS toggle switch on the throttle controls three viewing modes.
PSF HUD only view (when you need a close-up on that gun kill)
PSM virtual cockpit view (for TrackIR users)
PSB 2-D cockpit view (uses the trim to look around the cockpit and the world)Here are the core files for my setup. By opening and running the “Lawrence Falcon BMS.fcf” you’ll be able to understand how I programmed the lights for all the functions.
You will also see how the trim hat functions to allow some of the more important views, such as target, weapon target, incoming weapon, orbit and flyby that are good for situational awareness. The forward trim hat switch serves to go back to the front view as well as calibrate the track IR (F12)
The DMS up and down also has programmed onto it turning on and off “labels”.
I used the first trigger switch as my shift since in the game it’s not really used for anything else. This primarily enables the shifted functions on the Cougar MFD’s. These are illustrated in the the file “Lawrence Falcon BMS Cougar Template.pdf”
I tried to program pure direct X button calls for all the stick commands, so that the responsiveness of button presses would be crisp. In order to do this I updated a few of the keyboard commands in Falcon BMS through the “Setup\Controllers” option.
Included the custom mapping file. “Thrustmaster and Saitek Custom.key”. This should reside in the “Falcon BMS 4.32\User\Config” directory. It can then be loaded this through the “Setup\Controllers\Load” option.
Anyway that’s the gist of it. Let me know what you think and if you come up with some other great ideas or a slick set up it would be great to try what you come up with.
Cheers!

I like it…
I use the Warthog for Il2-COD only, but programmed the throttle LEDs to indicate flap positions.
Being I use the Cougar controllers and MFDs for BMS, i use FOXY/CCP not TARGET in no emulation mode for axes definition. If i want to control the Cougar MFD LEDs in BMS, I’d have to also run TARGET or can they be assigned without it?

Nice work Lawrence, i will give it a try, thank you

I am going to try this out today and if it works your my hero. Please read all my recent post’s and replies. As I have been fighting this for weeks. I am assuming I will have wheel brakes, TMS and cursor functions as well. Can you give me advice on the throttle and stick settings as I stated please read my posts and I will be waiting for your replies as you may of saved me a lot of grief.
Thanks. Ron

I used to be able to go into setup / control and use the keystroke page to match all the OBD buttons 1-20 on each MFD and I had several ICS functions on the rockers including HUD Color and HSI coarse and heading changes. In fact I am thinking of buying two more MFD’s if BMS will support them as a lot of functions could be placed on them. I just highlight the keystroke area and press the button on the MFD and its done. When I said used to be able to it changed when I used TARGET and I think I will have all the functions back again today. One note is TARGET sees MFD #1 as the Right MFD and 2 is the Left.

Hey Lawrence, have you a updated your profile for BMS 4.33 u1 since several functions have been added and key files have been changed, just wondering?

Lawrence - This profile works well in 4.33U1. Been having some issues with other TARGET setups with a a .tmc extension. This has the .fcf extension and it’ll be much easier to modify, f needed. I’ve even got the Thrustmaster MFD’s tucked away in a closet somewhere - I’ll pull them out and use them as they are already in your profile. Great job, thanks for sharing.
