JDAM in Israel theatre campaign….

I think JDams are not full simulated @ bms.

Wonder if you’re using update 6, if so, ITO is not fully compatible with it yet,
At the 108th we do a lot of JDAMs attacks, never had any issues with it -
A couple more things you might want to do is 1. write down the exact coordinates for each target steer point when you are briefing and reconning the targets. When you get into the cockpit, check the steer points for accuracy and change them as necessary. 2. GPS bombs are made to give standoff range as well as superior accuracy. BMS handles the accuracy very well, how ever the range is way off. You can live with this as long as you employ the GPS weapons just like you do with any other CCRP delivery. How ever, if you are ever brave enough to open the editor in BMS, you might be amazed to find out that all of the GPS bombs have their ranges set at two kilometers. In actuality, these weapons have a range of twenty eight kilometers (fifteen nautical miles) You can change these setting if you like. Now you can pickle these weapons using the manual mode. This allows your aircraft to release the weapon anywhere within the range of the weapon. The main idea is to ingress low and fast and then pull and then and burn and when you get about thirty degrees of ascent pickle the GBU and break down and away. It is great fun especially when the weather is so so bad.

What are the advantages of using JDAM instead of something else ?

Multiple targets in 1 pass with high precision hit rate. No reason to go heads-down to Lase, etc.
-
And I cannot do this with other types of bombs ?

No not with that accuracy - only LGBs have similar accuracy - but with LGBs you cant self lase through a cloud base for one thing.

I just tried using jdams in BMS and it seems im not fast enough to cycle throug the steerpoints, but why do I have to use the MAN Mode to drop them ? In another thread someone just used CCRP and didn’t switch between CCRP and MAN.
-
Afaik, you dont have to switch to man mode - but, if you do there seems to be a range advantage which increases with release altitude. I think optimum release altitude for best range is up to angels 25. After a certain altitude, the range advantage diminishes. Thanks to Tiag and the 185th for teaching me such things

Have you changed your spacing to 999? This should give you enough time to cycle through the steerpoints?

There’s a better way:

Thank you very much for these answers! Finally got them to go where i want them to.

Easy bombing technique…:D:D:D

On a related note, has anyone tried making markpoints with the TGP, then dropping multiple JDAMs? I have tried it a few times (in different theaters) and even though I set 4 separate targets, all JDAMs fall onto target #4. If I set targets from the recon screen they work perfectly, and hit all 4 targets. Something seems amiss when using the TGP.

It works using TGP to set the markpoints but when you drop the JDAMS, TGP mustn’t be in IR mode, and the FCR needs to be SOI.

Gotta try that.

I completely turned off my TGP and dropped with FCR as SOI and it still didn’t work. I’ll have to try again.

Since the weapon has your target in its memory, and, if you are within twenty eight kilometers (15NM) and fast and lofting, that is the perfect time to pickle the weapon. Only the MAN mode will let you instantly pickle the weapon. It is the perfect match for the GPS deployment. As a matter of fact, these weapons are pretty good at taking out SAM radar vans, the stationary ones at least. In the real world, the Air Force is now using GPS weapons which have a IR sensor head, so that if the target is moving the GPS weapon will still be effective against it.

Don’t forget. The SMS page has two profile pages. This is perfect for GPS employments. PROF 1 can have your mode set to CCRP. And, PROF 2 can have the mode set to MAN. When you are ingressing into the target area you can select PROF 1 to get a steering line to the target and a DME to the target. When you get within the 15NM ring you can select PROF 2. Now you can just loft the bomb. After you pickle this GPS weapon, press the Up-Down switch UP on the lower left part of the ICP. Get back down low and head for the new steer point and start the process again. Practice and practice in weather so bad lesser men wouldn’t even fly. If you do you will learn to appreciate how great these weapons really are.

I’ve had more luck by dropping in CCRP with 999ft spacing, switching STPT between drops. I used to use MAN but it only worked for me if I was dropping on fewer than 2 targets.
