SA-6 SEAD without standoff weapons?
-
(is there a height limit to the laser designator? can’t remember)
IIRC, approximately 21,000ft. Could be a bit higher or lower, though.

With a supposed min. engagement altitude of 164’ for the SA-6 it probably is suicidal, but I might try it for giggles. I remember reading in the c. 1997 -34 that the LANTIRN couldn’t operate above a certain altitude but I don’t think that is modeled in BMS.
LANTIRN. That brings back memories…use to buy those for the USAF while stationed at Wright-Patterson AFB.

There was a height limit on the targets if you adjusted the “bubble” settings, laser/radar/visual modes. Clouds and precip may degrade its’ ability. Not having a lasing pod installed can be an issue too. Can’t find the BMS pod limit, RP5 they set an inhibit for firing the laser above 25,000’ barometric, the claim being that the tgp will have electrical issues above this height. Can’t find which way BMS went with it.

Well, I found lofting on the SA-6 is a bit risky. Loft cue doesn’t appear until 7nm out. I managed to defeat all of his missiles after lofting but over-G’d my jet in the process.
The SA-6 also somehow managed to track and launch on me through a hill

Hi Jinro!
Did a quicky for you! Perhaps not as elegant as the other vids! Hope you like it!
Dancing with a SA6 in CAT3 config:
Cheers,
Scubps. i like your screenshot better than my vid! Can i use your screenshot? If yes, do you have it in higher res? thx mate!

I found GBU-38s from 33,000’ to work best. The SA-6 still launches on me as soon as my bombs come off the rails, but they don’t seem to track very well. I still got hit, but I think if I had done a straight 180* and got out of there it would have been a success.
On a side note, the TGP will not slave to STPT when in MAN bombing mode….

Just task an ECM flight like a prowler and knock every SAM down with club or throw rocks at it until it explodes. No problem.
-
 That’s the way to do it, but I don’t think it’s possible in the campaigns.

Well it worked. The only question is how long can I reproduce this without getting hit by a Golden BB from an AK-47?
Simple, next time…… GO FAST!

Or maybe you think about the fact that an active SA-6 in target aerea is a Mission Abort? You can not win in every Mission, thats also not realistic
-
Only if its location presents that situation. So far I have been able to fly around them/use terrain masking to successfully complete my mission. Although the big problem comes when the SA-6 is my mission
-
Lofting JDAMs around 20000 ft , M 0.9 works very fine. The range is 10 milse over so you can take SA-6 out very safely.

It is. If there is a prowler, just task it with an ECM mission.
Stay within 20nm of the prowler and you are all safe from SAMs. Not from ships though. -

Stay within 20nm of the prowler and you are all safe from SAMs. Not from ships though.Yes, and it is unfair. The power of SOJ is too strong in Falcon, literally kills the enemy SAMs, many times they are not able even to launch missile while they remain active (as I can remember) therefore they can be still targetted by ARMs.
Kiling a single SA-6 battery without overlayed AD and enemy fighters is not a big issue. As incoiming target missiles with 5-6G turns can be easily defeated as long as they performing only single launch.

@ Kuhprah - I’ve heard of that theory in MX racing, don’t focus on winning every race (since it may cause you great injury) but instead focus on consistancy and running up front. Taking 2nd or even 4th place more often than the top of the podium will gain you major points in a race, which may lead to you getting the series overall because of points, since the guy riding in 1st will change from race to race.
But in combat there is only 1st place, 2nd place is a lost cause. Moral of the troops goes down due to the fact that they keep loosing ground. You loose battle after battle and eventually you run out of resources - soldiers, pilots, tanks, jets, munitions, fuel, etc.
Remember - a pilots 1st objective is to bring his “Bird” home sans dammage. Then with dammage. Then be where tasked to be. And then causing destruction.
Now I’ve got a theory: Use a sat. guided multi-stage rocket with a warhead that destroys a full half mile - not necissarily a tactical nuclear (not New-Kew-ler as pronounced by several US presidents, correctly pronounced New-Kleer) bomb since fallout may cost you poitical backing, but at least then an ON-THE-MOVE target could be knocked out even with a miss. Maybe you could even task a drone to do it. HINTHINT* Then you don’t lose any pilots if it locks on and fires.
As far as tactics - too bad the F-16 can’t act like an AH-64, those can take out plenty. You want serious tactics? Avoidance, denial, and demand proof. Never admit to anything. Ever.

I disagree with you there , the first objective of any soldier is to complete his mission (with minimal dammage and casualties for his body and weapon of course)and allow the other forced to complete theirs . Just watch a few fight stories on the history channel and see how many pilots, infantry and tank fighters kept on fighting against all odds just to complete their mission knowing they will be shot down, hit,or captured .
Read some books about the Yom-Kipur 1973 war in Israel and you might change your mind seeing what could have happened if that was the main concern of the fighters . -
Those who do that get awarded a medal.
Those who just do their job and come home alive get their salary.
If I was ever trained to do what the single guy did to gain a medal, then medals would not exist.
I like to compare the foreign militairy ops with the medival crusades. Most knights and templars were going for the adventure or the money…or were forced to. Just few had some honest noble or personal cause. Its a different story when your coutry is invaded and you are defending it directly. Men (and women) will be more than willing to defend it or die trying.

10nm? When I tried it from 33,000 ft I only got 7nm range.
