AGM-84
-
hey there a simple question, how many AGM-84 can carry a F-16? 4 or 2?
-
Probably 2, assuming that it’s anything like the AGM-88. That may very well be one of the reasons why Japan decided on making the F-2 (can carry up to 4 anti-ship missiles) instead of the F-16.
According to F-16.net, the AGM-84 is only for non-US Vipers. And confirms, only on stations 3 and 7.

On the inner wing HP only drop tanks and dump bombs can be put as I know. Any intelligent weapon on inner HP is unreal in Falcon. Was (is?) a special wired ED test F-16 which is capable to use same weapons on inner HP but it was (is) unique. Because of the qty. of internal fuel F-16s literally all time carry drop tank. It is pointless to modify F-16s as long as they do not get CFT and integrated ECM to subsitute the capacity of drop tanks and ECM pods on CL station.
Even if rewire the F-16s the SMS is not able to handle more than 3 weapons on one side from the following weapons:
AIM-120
AIM-9X
JDAMs
(and maybe LGBs)They reqire special digital connection. During the operations over Libya you could see that F-16s which carried pair or JDAM and AIM-120 carried AIM-9M insted AIM-9X, because AIM-9M does not demand this type of digital connection to SMS.

What you (the user) asks, is what you get and what you pay for. So HAF PXIII & IV vipers can have 4 Harms in total.
The SMS is 30kb of code, you can do whatever you want with it, if the hardware equipment (or digital adaptors to the weapons) permit the communications.
And a q to you: How many SDB’s the viper can carry per side? And how do you explain this number then?

I also thought on this. My comments was considered for current F-16 fleet. Likely the SMS will be upgraded because the new 4 bomb rack cannot be used on Vipers. I ask one of my friend who knows better this area than me.

for current F-16 fleet
Again, this is wrong. Current fleet of what? Define what do you describe as the “standard bird” to talk about.
Nowdays “Blocks” have nothing to do with abilities. Mostly consider the “Block” as a hardware equipment platform, controlled by the software. So you might find older Blocks with upgraded electronics and software that are more capable of current Block 5x’s for example.
So, So USAF fleet? Only the half; are updated to the latest SCU and M tape.
HAF? > 4 different tapes / capabilities.
THK? > 4 different tapes / capabilities too, but they now have access to codes and they started writing their own data to their OFP’s…
IAF? > These are aliens vipers, leave them out of conversation.

What is WW user?
Instead being angry (?) maybe pls. post any picture or reference about any F-16s which carries more than 3 from listed weapons on one side. I’m very curious and other people too. I do not say that it is not possible but even for heavy loaded F-16s I haven’t seen any.
As I know SDB have been used in USAF only on F-15E. Maybe for F-16 USAF is waithing the SDB II.

ww= world wide

No, no angry m8.
WW is for World Wide. (or World War, depends on the usage with the rest words).

Are you guys going to get the Sniper pod, eventually? and if you don’t mind, what is the main difference between the Litening III and the Sniper ? seems they both do the same thing. Or is the Litening III better in the recon mission (the Dutch apparently are convinced of that)
-
Do you know where was made the image? Was it ED F-16? At least 3 SDB on the rack and one AIM-9X is visible.
Another question - which cannot be shown a photo - that goal of this config. Just aerodynamic testing during flight or system test? It is possible to put on rack weapon (I think, I have seen on other AC this markeing) which cannot be released.
-
I love how they still put logos on bombs. Like they want to have some credit list.
“Special delivery, brought to you by:”
Picture is posted here, by the way. Maybe you can find the location/squadron from the other picture showing part of the tail?
-
ah, the first 2 pictures is from an American jet, you can see it from the serial code style.
The other pictures are obviously from the Norwegian air Force, the Norwegian have no 9X, they bought the Iris-T instead. But, the jet with SDB, looks like he is at Nellis AFB.

Don’t see this as a limit of the software or SMS, as I said whatever you ask and willing to pay is feasible. Only problem and show-stopper of this and such configurations, are the aircraft and weapons structural limitations, as I’ve written in other thread recently. If it is not safe for the structure as proofed by computer and wind tunnel simulations, it will not be an approved loadout. The viper is small and sensitive bird, that can produce and multiply fluttering up to catastrophic failures very easily if you don’t load it properly.

You mean HAF? Well the demand was there since PXIV purchase plans, but some ppl in goverment had different opinion so they were left out. (maybe they didn’t get any money for this…) Currently the PXIV sq has taken half of the rest available Lantirn TGP pods. Simple solution for GBUs, bad for JSOW usage… Anyway, never now but difficult due to the crisis right here.
Litening III was an Israel product (although later purchased by US too), while Sniper was a clear US design to totally upgrade and replace the old Lantirn TGP. They are both very good and very similar to operation, only some symbology differences. Quite good image picture due to the latest sensors.
For recon missions --> use pure recon pods, like DB-110 etc.
For battle assessment missions --> use a (any) TGP pod to view and record the image.
In no way you can have the quality or data amount of a recce pod by just using a TGP.

The first of three images shows the test AC in 46th Test Wing, Eglin AFB, Florida. (The yellow color does not show that weapons are dummy variants, do they…?)
The Norwegian jet is more interesting. The loadout is on the AC but the photo sadly shows that only 2-2 bombs were released from both sides.

hey, those racks are used in the real life?

I think the BRU-61/A ( or the BRU-61 A/A) is still finishing development, getting cleared to fly with different airframes and different configurations. Not sure if it is in active service yet. It might.
