How to bug a target?
-
Simple question: How do you designate a radar target? It appears the old Num 0 keystroke command has been eliminated from the Saitek x52 profile?! Is there a new keystoke to bug targets? I find a lot of info regarding bugged targets but can’t find anything on actually designating a target.

Ctrl+Up arrow

The commands to look for are:
TMS-UP to lock target
TMS-DOWN to release target
TMS-RIGHT to switch to next target in certain FCR modes -
Ok I’ve got the problem with this command. TMS - UP and TMS - Down don’t locking(dislocking) the targets after first click on the stick HAT. TMS right works perfect and immediatelly after click on HAT the next target is switched. But initial lock of the terget is faulty. Sometimes I must two or more seconds continually pushing the button, or the hat (no difference If I map TMS Up on any button or any hat. Command doesn’t work on first touch even on Keyboard), until the target Lock is reach… It’s same for Radar locking or Maverick visual locking…
DMS and CMS command work perfect (first touch - immediate reaction) on my hats, but TMS seems like faulty… Is there any way how to solve It? -
TMS Up once to bug, and TMS a second time to hard lock. Basically, TMS Right to switch from RWS Mode to TWS Mode. TMS Down to reset all and break lock. There is a lot more to it, but these are the basics.
You should program your buttons and hats in the Controllers section of Setup. For example: find HOTAS:TMS Up, click on it, it turns blue. Now hit the button or hat position you want to put it on. Save the keyfile. Voila, your done. You can only program un-shifted stuff here. You would have to edit the Config file for the shifted stuff.

I know about two levels of locking.
Sometimes I can reach a Soft (Bug) Lock after 10 or more pushes of TMS Up command (and It’s same for Key combination, or mapped function on buttons or hats) and hard lock after other ten or more pushes. Sometimes the target is soft locked after 4 pushes or less and hard lock come with more than 15 pushes. Seems like the TMS doesn’t work properly.
Yes, due to this locking malfunction, I use TWS radar page and TMS right command which works perfectly with locking the next targets, but initial lock (soft and hard or both) sometimes takes 2 or more second of continuing pushing of TMS Up command, until the first level of Lock is reached…. And same malfunction is with locking of Mavericks, where TMS UP command doesn’t lock the targets at second push either… -
OK I think I know where your problem might lie. If you have your hat that you use for TMS programmed with macros, you need to put a hold command of some kind with it. It cannot be a single microsecond press. Because you actually need to hold TMS Up until it bugs, especially if the aircraft you are trying to lock is jamming. If you program it in Direct X, it will automatically have this functionality.

In setup it reacts properly but in simulation it sucks… I’ve got G940.

First,
This belongs in the HOTAS threads. Another thing is that it would be helpful; if everyone listed there machine specs. It’s not for bragging, but for bug issues with hardware. Now, I have a G940. Had this very same issue. You need to go into your “keystrokes” file in “set-up” and map all of your keys to your HOTAS. Next, go into Logitech HOTAS profiler. Map again every key directly to your command or assigned “keystokes”. That should sort you out. Test those function as you go. Enjoy……

I find the problem. The default key combination is problem, I’ve changed the Keys for TMS Up and TMS Down and now It works great

jhook,
Actually, I think this is the right place for the question. I’m new to the game and was confused about locking up a target. I searched on Locking up a target, radar lock, and a couple other terms in the training manuals. In the training manuals the terms for locking up a target are “bug” and “designate.”
Finally came here to the forum and searched “how to bug a target.” Stumbled through several discussions and found the answer I was looking for here.
In this case rtfm just confused me - lock - bug - designate??? This is not a HOTAS problem in my case, it’s a knowledge/terminology problem.
This forum is a great tool!!!
