Changing BMS folder location.
-
Hi guys, i’ve been recently trying to change my falcon bms installation folder to anything else than c:/falcon BMS 4.32 and it doesn’t let me change it to anything else than the original installation. When i open the launcher, all the options are greyed-out and if i try to run the executable directly, it gives me a registry error.
I have tried changing the launcher location and changing the working directory, but no avail. is there any workaround?

okay just reinstalled to the new folder using the original 600 mb installer, made it change the registry and copied my old folder over the new directory.

u just copy paste (or move) where u want, then change the registry key accordingly u r done.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Benchmark Sims] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.32] "baseDir"="C:\\Falcon BMS 4.32"
a few days back I done the same and putted it on a usb disk.
If u use f4patch u must change the path there too in the registry.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\F4Patch] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\F4Patch\Frame] "NormalX"=dword:00000244 "NormalY"=dword:00000173 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\F4Patch\MenuXP] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\F4Patch\RecentExeList] "file1"="C:\\Falcon BMS 4.32\\Launcher.exe" "file2"="C:\\MicroProse\\Launcher.exe" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\F4Patch\RecentPackageList] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\F4Patch\Settings] "X"=dword:000002f0 "Y"=dword:000001ef "F4Exe"="C:\\Falcon BMS 4.32\\Launcher.exe" "PackageDescription"="" "PackageExeName"="C:\\Falcon BMS 4.32\\e-HAF Aegean v2_1 Settings.exe"

Sorry to revive this old thread, but it would be great if we could get rid of the registry entries altogether (except maybe for basedir) and read everything else from a human-readable (and editable) ini file.
If “basedir” could be passed via command line it would be very easy to maintain several bms installations alongside each other without any interference, dependencies or cross-DB-corruptions whatsoever.
launcher.exe –basedir=“C:\bms_korea”
and have the launcher look for an ini file there, or even allow passing of an ini file via another parameter like so:
launcher.exe --basedir=“F:\bms_sinai” --inifile=“F:\bms_pilots\testpilot.ini”
All these could be made readily available via separate desktop shortcuts for instance.

There are many good pieces of software that do not rely on registry keys. Having to dive in there just to change the folder location is madness.
