Cougar Device detection Error (Vista)
-
Dear Community,
I’m still reading for a while at bms forum but now I have a huge problem and need some help :(.
A few weeks ago I re-started playing falcon and also found my old cougar. I installed the vista 32bit driver from TM and everything worked fine. After shutting down the computer the device manager/gamecontroller manager did not find the cougar any more and of course the included software (foxy/ccp etc) did not find my stick. After re-install the driver package from TM, the computer found my cougar again but after each re-start Windows did not find my stick. I tried everything (disconnet and reconnect, re-install etc) but nothing worked. Yesterday, windows did not find the cougar just after installing the drivers, windows only let me know, that there is an unkown device detected. I’m also not able to flash the firmware because the updater shows a device detection error.
At the moment I’m very frustrated but I do not want to buy a new stick, because there is no other Falcon replica available and I don’t want to use a A-10 Stick/Throttle resp. the control unit of a X-Wing for flying a Falcon.
Thanks a lot
Best regards

Wish I had a Cougar detecting device……

Did you try re-downloading the Dunc_DX.tmj and .tmm files to the Cougar with Foxy2Beta?

have u changed usb port? better use a port that is on the back of the computer righ on the motherboard… or use an external powered usb hub.
If all fail then do a clean install or a reset of your cougar (look at my hot list). If u still having problems then your PSU 5v is failing… happened to me twice. -
When you tried to reflash the Cougar, did you reset the Cougar to factory defaults first? The procedure is to plug in the USB connector while holding the trigger.

Install according to Cubpilots instructions.

Yes, I did so
In that case, and if you didn’t do so already, try Striker’s advice: http://cubpilotshangar.net/page105.html

Hi Guys,
Solved!
It was a long way to solve the problem but at the end it works.
First of all I tested the cougar on a Windows 8 system and everything worked fine, so I was a bit confused why it did not work on a vista system with vista drivers but on win8 with vista drivers. Nevertheless I decided to re-install win vista and tried again but nothing happened.
But after installing win7 and the vista drivers, the cougar works again.Just have no idea why Windows vista does not accept the vista software from Thrustmaster but it doesn’t matter any more.
Thanks a lot for your support.

Microsoft’s former CEO Steve Ballmer declared that Vista was his biggest mistake.

I had a similar problem and I couldn’t fine what the problem was until I tried a USB 2.0 and it works.
The Cougar isn’t USB 3.0 compatible! -

win 8 and 8.1 have some issues with usb and powering them… disable for that port the power save.
with 8.1 another member had problems with Cougar MFD’s.
