Can VAC emulate real radio use protocol?
-
I was thinking of setting up VAC for radio calls but I have not found a good guide or an answer a important question that will make it or break it for me. Is there a way to make voice commands dependent on using the mic with proper band/channel/frequency…instead of a generic open mic situation. If so can someone point me to a guide or somewhere I can read more about how to set up this type of configuration.

The best setup I have found for the most number of realistic radio calls for speech recognition is KeySpeech with JCenzano’s profiles. It has realistic phrases for every callsign in the sim, both player’s callsign and others like tankers and AWACs. You can set it up to be on your PTT HOTAS buttons. For the most part, when talking to anyone other than your own AI flight members you have to be tuned to the correct frequency anyway.

Shep, using VAC for radio calls is great, I use it as well. But as Snake said, the correct frequency is not controlled by VAC, it is set up through the Com1 Com2 buttons. Therefore you can have whatever radio commands setup in VAC as you want but if you haven’t adjusted the Com1 and Com2 to the correct frequencies, they will not be heard.
