"The Black Knights"
-
So I think we’ve all seen the USAF Thunderbirds. I’d like to try my hand at skining a Singapore Air Force Black Knight F-16. I’ve got a few photos to go from. Anyone have a sorce they can cite for making skins? If I manage to get it completed I’ll post it.

I don’t know who took these, sorry. I pulled them from a 2002 MOTORBOOKS calendar titled AIR Superiority, MBI publishing, July section and the back cover. They are A versions.

So step one - don’t save files as jpeg. The immage goes from clear to blurry.

That’s the 2002 season livery. This is for Singapore Air Show 2014!
Somebody PLEASE make it for BMS, its too awesome to live without. -
Google “Black Knights RSAF” there should be lots of pictures. More should be coming out as the airshow nears. Ask me if you need any information.
Cheers,

@ 140fml - Found those but I like the older design. At least up top, too much red and not enough white. I can try for that on a round two though, once I get through the first one doing it like the '14 should be much easier.
Problems I’m having at present: Every time I save the picture file, wether JPG, GIF, BMP, or even export to .dds I get really odd adjustments to happen. I’ve tried saving at the best quality level with no luck. What starts out as a single solitary line gets wrapped up or anti-aliased and blended into the other color. What am I doing wrong?

Figured I’d give an update of where I’m at presently.
Only been able to get the nose and back so far - had many issues with corrupted files when I saved in a (I wasn’t aware of it) compressed format. Again, only crafting the earlier paint version at present. These are using the stock body with the panels I’m re-touching. Hense the non-marked wings and tail and such.

Having some trouble with colors changing due to file type, still working on the nose area of the newer paint scheme. Getting the cresent moon to appear correctly is …uh… fun. I’m also noticing that the actual pics I can find don’t match the model that’s available to work with in the 3d sence. If I get the back of the canopy placed correctly and size the canopy just right then something is off, I don’t know if it’s a perspective thing or maybe a camera lense. The more I pay atttention to that the more it bugs me. I’ll post a screen shot of where I am soon.

It’s working again.

Progressing along, slowly. The blue color will be red when I’m done, it’s blue so when I’m done I can find what has been altered color wise - apparently multiple saves to a file change colors around (brightened darks are most notable). I’m only trying for 3 major colors in each color set, i.e. light red, red and dark red, and the saving process and line alterations have changed those colors on me. Been away from it for a bit, reality getting in the way, but figured an update would be good for followers. Stars and curves - fun fun fun.

Sorry for lack of information here. Still stuck on the nose section. Finally I think I’m close to finished with the right side front, I just need to add the scripted SAF and change it back to red. Staring at the screen for long hours trying to get panels and lines to line up - my eyes got tired from it. Still plugging away at it, I wish I was faster at it but color and electronic drawing aren’t my medium of choice - paper and pencil works much easier and looks better to me. I’m hoping to move on to the back or a wing by the end of the month - no promises though. I’m going to try to add a few screen shots, it doesn’t always look quite right depending on the angle. But again, the right side nose top is much closer to done. I’ve been a little too picky on this side - especially the pit lines, maybe I’ll be moving faster soon.

-BabiteHey Babite, glad you’re also working on the Black Knights skin too, currently our team has already established an 80% completion on the skin(rather uncomplete on the nose and underwing of the aircraft though) based on the F16C Blk 52 model. Hope you’ll join us on the development of the skin, we could start some aerobatics sortie together, I was hoping to create a video on the team before the RSAF Black Knights team starts flying again this october
The picture is by our team of 3, taken several months ago

Do you have any close-ups you can share of that? It’s too small for me to get any good idea of the overall job, but I’m thinking your red is too dark. Beyond that you’ve gotten much farther than I have. But your 3d model looks funny to me, maybe it’s the white you have over the forward section, and the nose looks slightly clipped. Within reason though, that looks pretty good from the distance. I’m open to ideas …

-BabiteAs I said, the picture was taken months ago, adjustments were made through these period, the color was not as dark as it is in BMS, could have been cause of the filter used on bandicam, this ss was the best i could find due to the lack of time we had to formation fly due to our workload in the airforce

I’d be happy to try to add to it - as long as there was no charge and was open to general public download.

Does anyone know how to remove or supress the “Rescue” graphic for the black box, along with the squadron patches that show up on the aircraft? They don’t appear on what I’m normally looking at for the .dds files. For instance, I look at any skin file for a/c X and there is no extra graphic - even in the pilot section. Now as I move on to ogllod I see a/c X looking fine, but maybe the a/b is poking thru. But then I press [Z] in ogllod and I notice that not only do the lights seem to POP a bit more, there is also the RESCUE arrow, a squadron graphic on either side of the intake hood, etc… I want to either hide these graphics or alter them, but I’m not aware of how they are manipulated. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
To those curious on my progress, I’ve been un-able to continue skinning for a bit, I could either fly or skin. This was due to somebody else overtaking my system - a shared computer. And I’m still having issues trying to get the model to line up with pictures I have, which kills my eyes after several hours. How a holographic screen would be great here.

I would like to have the skin of “The Black Knights”, is it available to download? Thanks!
